There is all of the info that I can provide you on the topic this ought to keep you busy and give you all you need to know to get yourself building some new panels. Best regards Moray James.http://www.diyhifi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=300

can u give info on shorting mod, after my NEW mod the bypass of 500m an chok dose not work.allmost 3db big deal more time aline?think,s
Can you please be a bit more specific? Not sure that I understand what you have done and want to do.

The mod lzzy wizzy dose not work with new mod, well u can now hear the top is rold off!The shorting mod,an 1owm mod give allmost 3db for esl thats BIG DEAL. THANK,S FOR YOUR TIME ALLEN 813 977 4798
Not sure that I understand what you are getting at regarding the Izzy Wizzy mod not working with the new mod? First of all which Izzy Wizzy mod (that you feel does not work) have you tried? Second what is the new mod that you are refering too? I sounds that you are referring to the stator wire shorting mod and to your suggested series resistor mod to the high frequency transformer. Is this correct? If so then back to the Izzy Wizzy mod that you could not get to work. Please discribe which mod that is. Thanks and regards Moray James.

Thank,s the so call shorting all the grid togather! I have this do u have this mod?An do u have any info on this mod.I also have new mod if u look at the interface u well see the hi an lo transformers are not the same at input low has a R 1owm i have 50w.The mod is to mach the hi side on grond need,s 1owm i have 10w. It get the top to time aline .
Regarding the stator mod (connecting all stator wires (per side) together at each end of the panel. Yes I have done this to a number of sets of panels. This is a good mod which works well but it is also a pain to do. This mod lowers the DR of the stator and makes it so the audio charge can cover the stator faster than with the stock configuration of winding up and down across the width of the panel. You need a good exacto knife a fine tip for your soldering iron, fine solder and lots of flux. Most of all you need a steady hand.
The primary function of the 1 ohm resistor that is in series with the low frequency transformer is to prevent the transformer from getting saturated (due to ELF content). Once the transformer core is saturated it tends to stay that way for some time and by the time it stops resonating along comes another dose of very low and sets it off again. A saturated bass transformer core is a serious risk to the health of your amplifier. This is why the resistor is there.
Adding a series 1 ohm resistor to the high frequency transformer is an easy mod to make and listen to. If the idea is to make equal the DCR of the two transformer primary side windings then you would need to measure them both first. Regards Moray James.

Yes,i think the high frc.tranfourmer also get saturated ezer than low. well u do the mod an let me know what u think. as i siad once the high frc.tranfourmer is no longer satrated the bump in low frc. tranfourmer is now eqel. Now it lot ezer to drive an the high,s are open an exstinded, take all the panel,s out side an wash !BEST MOD EVER thank,s allen like new panel,s
Capbypass on hi volt bias,an 10m or 250m an chok,s all good mod .As u siad, after i put the 1.5 10w on gronds of hifrc transfourm,s i beleave you have start over .thank,s i well wate to hear from u, Allen
may be a while geting to this. Please send me a PM and that way we can discuss off line when necessary. Regards Moray James.

just send me a PM. That way we can discuss this off forum. Regards Moray James.

Will experiment with the resistor on the Hi freq. transformer soon. You are right on about the panels being washed. I have done this myself also. I found (the hard way) you want to be carful about what you wash with though. Detergent will wash a panel well but remember that detergent is conductive. A number of people have used detergent as the conductive coating on their panel diaphragms. So if you use detergent you have to rinse it VERY well to prevent diaphragn static charge from "bleeding" off to the frame. Old panels get coated with cooking oils, fats, smoke and dust over the years and this will be conductive enough to allow charge to "bleed" off the diaphragm resulting in reduced output and strain on your supply. Household solvents like mineral spirits (paint thinner)do a better job and will not leave residue that is conductive. You also want to be very careful with old panels as they do become fragile over the years as the plastiser in the louvre "sweats" out of the styrene plastic with time. Further it is difficult to wash clean the inside surface of the stator panel wires and a good long (multi day) soak immersed in solvent in a big sealable plastic container is your best bet. Just make sure you don't use anything (solvent) with ketones or other solvents likely to attack the styrene itself. So no laquer thinners etc.. There are cleaning solvents that are neutral to plastics and will degrease really well however they are a bit more expensive to use.
At the end of the day I would suggest people simply gear up and build new panels as with Acoustats by this time they are starting to fall apart anyway due to old age. This will gige you the chance to build with 3/8 thick louvre rather than the stock 1/2 inch louvre and to use 3-4 micron film rather than the factory 65 gage HS Mylar. This results in far better bass treble and efficiency.
The choke supply mod (ues ten series wired one Henry chokes)is cheap to do easy to install and makes a big improvement. Well worth the time and effort to do.
You did not say which Izzy Wizzy mod it was you tried. Was it the added supply cap mod? I found this to bump the supply output by about 500 volts and it worked very well for me. Exchanging the stock 500 meg ohm resistor for a smaller ohmic value (say 20 meg ohms) is also a god plan. The older panels really do loose charge as mentioned above and anything you can do to boost it up some helps a lot. You will achieve increased output level as well as improved dynamics. Bass seems to also be better with a little more kick from the suppy. Best regards Moray James.

The mod was 500mohm cap,it dose what u say,but role down the hi frc.with 1.5ohm 10w on hi frc.transfourmer,sThank,s i well be glad to here from u. just you,sed water, big diff just like u siad
You said "the mod was a 500 meg ohm cap" this does not make sense. Are yoou talking about a resistor or a capacitor and where? Please clairify.

bother to type complete words and form complete sentences, I say screw 'em. That was complete gibberish.
Thanks: but English may not be his first language and if so his English is a lot better than my French. Further who knows what ever else may be involved. I helped run an adult ADD group for 9 years and not every body can type write and speak as well as they might like to or once could (accident). The request made sense and the idea of the second resistor on the hi frequency transformer input is an interesting one and I will give it a try. I have experimented with snubber resistors across the transformers with good results in the past.
When people have issues it can cause them to refrain from attempting to use such forums as this as a result of feeling embarrased. Just as most of us refrain from asking questions we feel may make us look or sound stupid. Better to ask in the end but often hard to do. I know I feel that way sometimes. A little bit of informaton can make for some off base questions true. Hey we all want to learn more. I have a friend who was in a bad accident and was severly handicapped as a result. To many she might seem retarded but she is just slower that she was. She just got her masters degree though it took her almost 5 years to do given other family issues she had to deal with. Ther are lots of well educated smart people out there with very little to offer the world I'am sure you know some. A lot of disabled people work much harder than "normal" people do to simply appear as normal. Who am I to judge? There are a lot of ways to skin a cat and at the end of a day as long as you get the job done you are winning. I'll get off of the box now. Best regards Moray James.

or etc. But some clues...
a) poster's writing style is very reminiscent of lazy-ass e-jargon.b) even someone struggling with a second language knows the difference between a comma and an apostrophe.
c) language and science are both left-hemisphere brain functions, thereby limiting the likelihood of one being affected without the other in a traumatic accident.
But, saying all that, and even with my B.S. meter pegged, it's as I said-you have more patience than I, and you're to be applauded for that.
Thanks for saying so. What the heck as long as we can communicate. Now if i cud mo btr undstand wrap, I might be able to appreciate it as an art form! Regards Moray James.
