I have three pairs of Acoustats....1+1, 2+2, Spectra 11.They may beam more than other ELSs, but when your in that sweet spot, the sound is TREMENDOUS. I've owned dozens and dozens of speakers, and have about 50 pairs now, but I always say to friends and visitors: "There is nothing like the sound of an electrostatic."
Although they are much smaller, I tend to like the sound of my Spectras more than the big guys...plus they fit in my cellar (lol).
...and the Spectras do excellent for music other than jazz classical and acoustic. The CDs of The Allman Bothers at the NY State Fair a few years ago really makes them perform.Good luck. I always enjoy hearing about someone who has discovered electrostatics.

I find my Spectra 2200 to be a bit better sounding than my 1+1 (modded and with medallion transformers). They are more transparent deeper soundstage, and more powerful bass.
I used to use a sub with my Spectra 11s when they had their oiriginal woofers installed. From what I understand (and agree with), the woofers were a weak link in this model. One started to crackle so I installed a nice pair of ADS woofers. They have absolutely no need for a sub now. They sound excellent.I bought mine as a pile of parts...the panels, interfaces, woofers, speaker cups. Someone had ripped them apart for some reason. My friend and I made new cabinets using the original blueprints. They came out beautiful...both in looks and performance. We added our own style to the cabinets with the rounded edges.
By the way can I put two pics within one post?
