Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
64.136.173.16
I have MG12's upfront and MMG's in the rear of my HT setup. Wondering where other Maggie owners place their rear speakers? I have tried the rear speakers:a. facing straight forward with the nulls in line with the rear seating;
b. the speaker panels facing the rear seating;
c. angled toward the middle of the room.
Follow Ups:
I find in my room for HT with 20.1 up front, phantom center, and 1.6s for rears, that I have the rear speaker panels facing the rear seating at the center with the tweeters towards back wall and center of base panel in line with head position. The speakers are 1 foot closer to the center position than the front speakers but I adjust for this with exact distances inputed into my Mch Preamp (Bel Canto Pre 6) . All Dolby Digital or Prologic processing is directly from my Arcam FMJ DV27A player.On DVD Audio disks from AIX (best company besides Classic), when using "on Stage" mode I feel Like I am up front in the horn section with the base right behind me (in phantom rear center) and piano and drums off respectfully to each rear corner.
My room does not really allow me to set up a true Mch SACD surround position since I have the front and rear speaker on the wide wall of my room.
Thanks
I use four 1.6's on Mye stands sith spikes and sand filled struts. The rears are as far from the listening/viewing position as are the fronts. The rears are placed "edge on", i.e, the non-tweeter side wood frames face the back of the listener's head. The means that the nulls are directly behind the listener and a greater sense of spaciousness is achieved. I use a phantom front center and a phantom rear center (my pre/pro converts 5.1 material into 6.1 and stereo material into 5 channel Dolby Pro Logic II Music). I use a powered sub crossed over at 40 hz and carefully blended level wise with the mains.
If I had a larger room and the budget, I'd put my 3.6's in the rear and get 3 20.1's for the front....I'm currently using the MGSS1 for surrounds, I keep them angled at about 30 degrees towards my listening postion..having them 90d to the wall was to diffuse a sound in my room
