Find a 7day timer and you can wake up to music that is - clear / 'loud' enough to be heard', but not so LOUD as to wake up you / wife with a jolt.mine's now a reserve HT system, Denon 55wpc thing well (hmmm Subs in the bed-base I reckon).
And my Yammme R3 in the HT system has it too! And, I've added pre-in/outs - so it 'will' be the inline 2CH pre amp, soon.
AND LBNL - Iffens yez takes off the lid of the rcvr and spray into the pot for Var.Loud it will clean up. mine did.
I have TWO SS rcvrs with that facility. Denon and Yamaha are the only ones I know of that gave this feature.

Follow Ups:
Great idea on the alarm.I have opened the unit, sprayed, twisted pot, repeated so many times. All the pots and selector switches were noisy when I started, but the variable loudness (a nice feature on a bedroom system) is stubborn. It is only noisy when twisted, so the impact im minimal, but not satisfactory.
All te pots in my Denon rcvr were bad as the thing was from Sydney looking onto the harbour.

Do you have a brand or particular active ingredient?
*** Having exhausted my main supplies I once tried to use a small portion of Armagnac, but achieved disappointing results...Maturity is when one has fully learnt the lessons from earlier errors of judgement... DRINK the Armagnac!!....
