...When my son was in the 6th grade, I had saved my precious pennies(I was dirt poor at the time) to buy him a Diamondback bicycle ( those were the brand to get back then) and some punk stole it from the rack at his elementary school. It was chained to the rack even. We were so depressed. We filed a police report, but because we live on the border of Mexico, thefts are rampant and it is difficult to catch anyone as there are not enough police in our city to cover the numerous thefts. I saved some more money and bought him another one and fortunately he was able to enjoy it until the next year when we bought him his first motorcycle dirt bike.
Follow Ups:
.....My son has reacted extremely well to the loss of his bike. I think he is far more upset than he lets on. A few years ago I think he would have had a major dummy spit. I’m proud of him for taking this in his stride.Fortunately I am in position to buy him another one.

to a new Diamondback I bought my son at about the same age. He had it for 5 days and always put it into the garage when he was done with it for the day. He came home to get a drink of water and use the restroom and left it in the front yard. 5 minutes later he went back outside and his bike was gone. Filed a police report, but of course nothing was recovered. I doubt it did anything except waste a sheet of paper. He was crushed, I was pissed.
Yep, same for me...son crushed, me pissed. What can you do? Total frustration at work again.
