? over at music, barely a response at Radio.Even if it isn't able to be one anymore - like say for bwkie, and even IF he counts the LP's up in the loft - and thinks about his TT, and looks at the cats, and, says noooo!
so g'warn have a go Centralians! Yes, you are permitted to mention briefly a significant item or concert!
You can comment, too!
Yes, the classifications might not seem sufficient / valid, to some of yez. And thus, QED on 'all classifications being arbitrary in the precise sense!'
Eg. I'm sure bwkie and M&M amd KK would have different ones to expand, but might be able to agree, ;-)!
I'm sure CJ and I would tend to share some enthusiasms for some recordings that are well and simply engineered, given our love of maximum coherence aka AbPol ;-). But IIRC CJ prefers and has lots of the golden age* of vinyl/stereo stuff on vinyl (*pre 70's) and I have a lot more HIP stuff, and prefer it for concerts and recordings! ..... ....... Not sure we're talking at the moment, either. {:~^|} !
BYTMM,
off yez go, then!
Spill!!!

where I am as I can listen to 2 public Fm stations which are provided by the 2 universities in our province. These two stations provide us with excellent programming ranging from eclectic, new, contemporary jazz standards to live classical broadcast music. The sound is great in addition, as they do not employ too much aural exciter and compression in their broadcast chain. If I get bored with the other 2 fm stations I can always get my next fix with the CBC FM Radio again they provide similar programming but with greater varieties.
Owning a Philips AH 673 tuner hasn't hurt either.
Can you still get the crystals for those?... :o)
but the one in it seems to be working just fine as everything is working according to the specs. No drifting and has excellent noise cancellation between the two adjacent channel. The Philips AH 673 fm tuner, which is made in the 70’s, is considered young compared to my Lowe Opta console AM/FM tube tuner, which is made in the 50,’s in Germany.
I hope that you are enjoying your favorite suds today as I am.
It should've said "Loewe Opta".
is if I catch an advertisement for someone I really want to see, and even then it has to be held at one of a handful of venues. The older I get, there are less acceptable venues it seems. For the longest time, the only functional radio I had was in the car. Satellite radio did much to fix that, and with XM in the house and Sirius in the car, it has influenced my buying decisions. XM Cafe, Sirius Disorder and a few other stations have greatly expanded my listening horizons and musical interests.
Prior to that, the only way I had to learn about new music was word of mouth, posts in Audio Asylum or a writeup in the LA Times.
The major LA rock station -- KLOS -- has recently gone HD and they have managed to overhaul the way they play music to the point where, in my car, at least, they are starting to give satellite some serious competition. Satellite's saving grace is the absence of commercials, though. That is a big saving grace.
At home, satellite radio is used for background listening only, never any serious listening. Unless I am not home. Mrs. bwk is a big fan of some 90's grunge, and she'll tune that stuff in and blast away until the walls breathe. Unfortunately for her, I am "allergic" to that genre. ;~)
But as I have mentioned before, I am perhaps the worst possible candidate to participate in any radio-oriented poll. Technically, you have to be able to receive broadcasts to know much about them.
except for the occasional "Prom" broadcast that looks appealing, so - even ignoring my normal reluctance to contribute to polls - there would seem to be little point in recording this on your forum poll...When there is an already extensive personal library of recordings one thoroughly enjoys, a very good orchestra and concert-hall about 20 mins away from home plus several other good periodic venues within a 50-mile radius, I suppose this naturally limits how much radio will be regarded as a prime source for musical performances we have not yet heard but might wish to purchase...
IMO there are thoroughly enjoyable performances delivered both from pre-1970s and subsequent (including some HIP) recordings, but also others which are evidently generally well-regarded from both groupings which I regard as unmusical "turkeys"... I suppose that this is just another instance of "different folks, different strokes"...
Whether or not you are speaking to CJ seems to be a touch curious... Whilst others on non-music forums may or may not share my opinion that this particular inmate has congenital inadequacies in terms of intellectual honesty that apparently prevent any form of genuinely impartial assessment together with frequently tetchy reactions to anyone who does not appear to agree with his stated views, I would imagine that such factors would be likely to be far less of an issue on the Music forum, where every viewpoint is very individual and obviously largely "subjective" in nature...
And yes, polarity of recordings is an obvious issue, and one where not collecting a lot of "compilation" recordings avoids the possibility of an awful lot of lead-swapping, rather than simply being able to relax and listen to the music... It's so much easier to note the colour-coding I give to each recording and to check equipment phase just once before playing!...
When I make my own compilation recordings, checking the polarity of each contribution before recording is simply another stage of the process...
I hope that all goes well in Oz...
Bill.
