I just dropped another $500 into our Toyota MR2 with 140K on it. In a couple months, I'll be ahead and I hate payments. Then the truck needed tires and brakes for another grand. Guess, it'll be a few months before I break even again.

Well, it is a little out of context since it was supposed to have been in reply to Dave a bit down.

I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind- I'm only in a slight haze now (im my head not my eyes)
Maintenance costs apply to whatever vehicles one owns and only vary in actual price. (surely a know factor before purchase)
I always maintain my vehicles in A1 condition but if any reliability issues arise the thing is gone in a flash.

you are not buying into the disposable society thing. My '91 Miata has 140k and a little rust. Needs a $400 cat converter to pass MD emissions. Still better then payments and depreciation.
I don't know what your insurance deal is, but usually a high-milage vehicle which is paid-off insures for a great deakl less as well, espically is you carry limited options. So really you have to count on less than 2 avarage insurance+installment payments for BOTH cars. I say Goodonya'!!! See, there IS a bright side. :)

Bonneville has 175,000 on it. The wheel bearing hasn't been growling but has been making a loud hum anytime the steering wheel is left of center. Bought a replacement & went ahead & got the ball joints, tie rod ends & sway bar bushing link kit too. That's the last time I do a FWD ball joint w/o an air chisel.Have an appt. in the am to get the car aligned (no charge, as I bought a 3 yr. alignment) but will have the shop do the ball joint on the passenger side.
And of course you are assuming you wouldn't be upsold like free ranger was. Yep, it is time for an oil change in the Crown Vic with 180,000 miles, and I'm quite pleased with that. The last thing I want right now is car payments.
