Follow Ups:
I remember hearing a local campus radio interview with Pantera
before they made the change into thrash metal. Back when they
were a Glam band. I also remember when Cowboys from Hell came out
and I thought...this is the same band??? I am not a huge
Pantera fan, but I do feel that the Vulgar Display of Power album is
one of the definitive thrash metal albums. And Darrell Abbott was a
one of the better heavy thrash metal guitarists. His death
was rather tragic...

Seriously, Dimebag's death was a horrible tragedy. They were a truly great metal band that could actually play their stuff damn well.
I love Pantera cars.
That's a "pimped" Pantera. The *real* de Tomaso Pantera (1971) didn't have a rear bumper like that one (no bumper at all, actually), nor did it have a apoiler. And I suspect it wasn't available in that orange color. I see that according to the link below, Tim Horton, NHL player and doughnut shop magnate, was driving a Pantera when he lost control and was killed in 1974.Personally I preferred the de Tomaso Mangusta of a couple of years prior. Similar drivetrain IIRC but much more intriguing styling...
sorry for posting the pimped model.
Giugiaro did the styling, IIRC.
I spotted it right off as well, Brian, as I had a good friend whose Father (or was it his Brother?) had one similar to the one in the picture, black on black, complete with the added-on ugly-ass bumper (but not as shiny). But why would I recognize it based on that tenuous link you ask? Simple, I reply. The owner blew-up the Cleveland sometime in the mid 80's and I tried desperately to raise enough money (only $5k!) as quickly as possible so that I could take it off his hands. Alas, selling auto parts while paying rent (and partying) does not allow one to put money in the bank, and off she went to a new home.
Ergo grex, ergo sum.
But before I heard of the band, I thought a Pantera was something sharp which you sat on and ruined your trousers... (geddit, Pant tearer...)
.
