"I'm sorry, Dave. I can't do that. You're laundry has not been sufficiently cleaned yet".You know, as much as I dislike many of the newer technologies, it pains me a little to admit that these suckers are really cool! Much less water consumption, so quiet I can barely hear them running when I'm standing next to them, and energy efficient. What's not to like?
Oh yeah, the price.

Follow Ups:
Well... umm... If you must know, it's the way they stare at me from the other room, unceasingly, chidingly, no matter how much I yell back at them."Stop it! I am not an animal; I am human!"
I note that this is not a common reaction, nor do I justify it.
Still, you did ask.
and your whole house loses atmospheric pressure. Make sure you stand to the side and hang on tight so you don't get sucked out with all of your oxygen!

You busy are you?Smile
Between the two of you the job shouldn't take more than about 15 minutes, just enough time for me to heat-up some bratwurst for y'all. When you comin' round?

... and a darn sight cheaper than those front-load monsters :-)
Between the two of us we checked-out dozens of sites and about 6 stores before making this purchase, and one thing we came across time after time was (based on purchasers feedback) the "fact" that top loading HE washers still haven't got their act together, no matter the manufacturer. Sure, it would have been nice to buy another top loader and re-use the old drier, but after hearing/reading the umpteenth horror story about them we both shied away from them. Our old Whirlpool units lasted for over 20 years, and both of us are believers in "if it ain't broke don't fix it". In other words, brand loyalty played a factor in this.

when are you going to paint the walls??? Huh?? Your
wash room looks like my garage. Aching for someone
to paint it...Very nice washer and dryer BTW. I looked at those when we
recently replaced all of our kitchen appliances. I am
pretty much a Whirlpool man myself. But we did go with
a Bosch dishwasher this time. So far so good...
Hey, next time your up this way for a Vikings game you're more than welcome to have at 'em!And those Bosch units look really nice and have a good "street rep", but if I thought these Whirlpools were expensive- Ay-yay-yay! That new job must be working out well for you. Congratulations!

I started ANOTHER new job about 3 weeks ago. Much better than
the last purgatory I stepped foot into. I wish the new
appliances could be attribited to the new job. Actually
my wife came into a little inheritance and she has spent
some on the house. I just can't convince her to let
ME spend any of it... ;-)Today we picked out new paint and window blinds. My weekends are
now booked for at least the next month. Thankfully there is
beer and Naproxen...
I didn't. I was referring to your "old" new job. So, that one didn't work out, huh? Well, you called it almost immediately.I hope this one works out better for you.

Life is full of lessons. I took that job to make a
fresh start and get away from an impending layoff.
But as they say...the grass isn't always greener on
the other side. I gave that job 8 months and realized
that I did not like the work nor did I care much for
how I was being treated. So I cut my losses and moved on..
So far I enjoy my job very much and it is a great place
to work. This starting over stuff at 46 years of age
can be tough...
Use digital detergent?
And I must admit the "screen" resolution is pretty good, too!

What, did I say something wrong??
Man, do you need a computer science degree to program the things? Whatever happened to twisting a dial and pressing a button. Grumble grumble.Seriously, those do look cool, and the energy efficiency should take care of the cost hopefully.
Yeah, me too. Our goal (well, mine at least) was to purchase the largest washer we could find w/o any frills. However, the larger washers are only available with all kinds of bells, whistles, and a complete laundry list of extra features. It's not like the late 60's where you could order a stripped-down Chevy Nova and stuff a 396 into it- you have to buy the Caprice in order to get the big block.Anyway, I wanted to get the next-to-largest size, the one with the mechanical buttons and less features, but Gayle wanted the larger (largest) unit so that she wouldn't have to go to a commercial laundromat to wash the large comforters and blankets. Guess who won.....
So now I have to figure out a way to pay for these things, and I'm wondering how many newspaper delivery routes I should sign-up for.

What - did I say something wrong??
But I'm a little warped so what do I know....Regarding the water savings, I don't know that they will ever pay for themselves in straight volume-of-water-used terms, but I have noticed this already- normally our water softener runs after 4 or 5 loads of laundry and a shower or two. Today? Six loads of laundry, two showers, one load of dishes, and no water softener cycle (less softener salt used). Couple that with the electrical usage savings we (allegedly) will receive and we may save enough $$$ over 20 years to offset the purchase price.
I would run some numbers but I've already been accused of liking Excel just a little too much (right, DE?)

And he was right.....
I had your name there first, but then I remembered that you were coat-tailing off someone else and I replaced it.I received an email regarding the the next ASM meeting- it's set for a Sunday afternoon. I don't think I can make it but I'll forward it along to you in case you're interested.
How's the car?
Ergo grex, ergo sum.
I put on about 800 miles last week, about 150 of that on gravel roads. For a cheap car, it's performing admirably, and is really perfect for the application - it has enough room for everything I need, but no more than that. And it's fun to drive around those back-country roads. All in all, no complaints.
