See below!?I think the soloists sound was just a teeny bit PUSHED, lovely piece but.
BTA my disc/s is the Virgin one with Pay 'auf original intrumentum', and the OAE - which is somehat less interpreted - letting you notice the piece just a BIT more, movement by movement.
The distinctive timbre and less wiggley bits on the body (keys) may explain a bit of that.
OTOH it could be my English side, where it's 'the noise it makes' (beecham?).

As I had been listening to Concerto No2 (Op. 5), which sounds "bright", rather than "rushed"...The partnering Weber 2nd Clarinet Concerto on the Hyperion CD is also a suprisingly pleasing piece...
And yes, it was Beecham who made that quote...
