Must be the time of year -- got home from our annual town meeting today (yes, I left early...) and saw this guy/lady apparently snacking on castoff birdseed ca. 3PM. Very odd, IME to see a fox mid-day around here. The kitties were surprisingly nonplussed.

perhapse this.
Great pics though. BTW what's all that green stuff in the foreground?
- nubz - :-)
Yes, the snow has receded from the backyard... still some out front, in the shade, though.

Later Gator,
Crank up your talking machine, grab a jar of your favorite "kick-back", sit down, relax, and let the good times roll.Eagles may soar, but weasels do not get sucked into jet engines.
Wonderfully captured - hope you get more and post 'em. As you know, round these parts we're lucky to see a ferule cat or, more commonly now, ferule chickens.
.......That Fox looks very healthy and in great condition – much better than the scraggly mongrel-types we have around here.Smile
... we see the scroungy ones around here, too. This one did indeed look pretty... umm... foxy :-)
As a kid in the Detroit suburbs, I had a friend whose family indulged in the annual fall hunting rituals of Michigan. The Deer Slayers and all that ...One fall, my buddy came home with a tiny red fox kit. The mother had been killed (not sure about that part of the story), and the den was found with a litter of two in it. One was given to the local authorities to do whatever with, and the other was taken home as a pet. I'm sure there are laws about this, but this is now and that was then.
They named the male fox Amos. That little bastard was the most devious, evil, arrogant animal in existence. Whenever somebody would come into the house, he would slink around behind furniture and under tables to manuveur behind them, then nip them on the ankle. Did it every time supposedly to show who's boss and establish house priorities.
And then there was the smell. Fox are akin to skunks and other mustelids. The house obtained an odor that could not be gotten rid of. It would gag maggots out of a septic tank.
The food and garbage raiding called for a constant vigilance. Birds stopped inhabiting the neighborhood. Cats disappeared. Neighbor relations became less than friendly.
Ol' Amos would cock his head and look real cute, inviting people to reach out at pet him. He never drew blood, but knew just how much pressure to apply to induce pain and not break skin. Which seemed to be a lot of pressure because it was a lot of pain.
They kept him for about two tears, but finally surrendered him to a local zoo.
I think that fox watched too many kitty flicks. We've had cats do the same thing! But they are cute as hell. We were out hiking a number of years back and stopped where the brush and trees are cut for the electric line towers. Lots of blueberries, and therefore, lots of animals...including Barb and I. The hill is really steep there and two foxes were "jogging" up the hill, their noses to the ground following a scent. They got less than 15 feet from us before noticing we were there. Their "jog" became two bolts of lightning...blink! They were gone!

by asking people what their worst ever dating encounter was.I'm still trying to figure out which of mine is really number one. One candidate is when I was invited to a big birthday dinner by a neighbor lady. It was a joint birthday dinner that included a bunch of her friends. Her friends turned out to be gay hairdressers who had also decided to eat LSD for the first time that night. As fate would have it, we were in one of San Diego's classier bars when that kicked in, and the fun began from there.
But there is another candidate. I'll have to ponder that and get back to you.
Again, those are some great pics mrh!
Sure. Go ahead. Top that one. Looking forward to reading it.
I'm tapped out for stories at the moment, so a vicarious episode would be great.
