To-day is, according to the nice lady on CBC Radio, "International Be Nice To Your Cat Day"Apparently it was on this day that one of the King Richards of England passed an edict banning the consumption of felines by humans.
In a stroke of a pen it went from them feeding us to us feeding them. Just like that (snaps fingers here)

Our kitties, who seem in no way grateful that they might be legally protected from being on the menu, do like to play Suburban Jungle Cat -- 'specially on nice, sunny days. Herein, Zappa surveys his domain.
Cinco and Mayo have been extremely demanding today. They must get out into my car and listen to CBC on the satellite radio or something.
Collie Cassie, having had two evidently non-combative cats in her previous household, is affectionate to all cats that do not take the liberty of trying to enter "her" property (especially the rear garden)...The cats involved, however, often seem rather "unsettled" by the speed of her friendly enthusiastic rush to come and say "Hello", and do not seem much reassured by Cassie's energetically wagging tail...
There are a number of cats (eg davec's Freddy and Ginger) that act as persuasive representatives for the feline cause...

On a leash, and he was a BIG hit with everyone else in the group, specially ME, and all t'other walkers we ran into, and their dogs. They have to be on a lead to minimise interaction with wildlife. Shadow is past 8 I'd reckon. A LOT of grey on his muzzle but not in his eyes or expression IYTMMeaning {:~)} ! Or his pace!!Shadow is an RSPCA adoptee - who was about to be put down and was saved for THAT reason alone. The staff's decision was because no-one would take him - because he was 'TOO cringey!!!!!' Long time back, now there's no sign of a cringe in him. He used to hide at the site of a stick in anyone's hand I'm told.
Now many walkers in our group use those purpose built trekking sticks avec spikes and hand straps, as my wife does. One of which I will be buying for ME, this very morning, on SPECIAL.
Not a sign of fear from Shad as, remembering Trisha, he bounced up to her that huge brush of a tail almost enveloping her, paws up on her waste for a cuddle, and face rub, little noises of pleasure as they greeted each other. Tish took a shine to Shadow at a group BBQ at HIS place last year. She's had it with pets though so we're not getting a dog.
Collies and BC's - there IS an air of alertness about them that is calm at the same time, eh?
And that Border Collie 'permanent GRIN'!!!!! As if WE'VE forgotten what a blast living is!!! But he hasn't!

we wuz VERY cut up when George's sister Minnie was killed in the road, she was a slinky and NOISILY happy, shiny-black slim and curvey long-tailed CHARACTER, the real instigator of the pair. She was the boss kitten and G the runt of the litter although ev'y the biggest, yet M buddied up with G! So they were a pair already before we got to choose. ;-)!Minnie was also THE most efficient ambusher (IN or OUT) of us or George, of all the cats I can remember. Ever heard of the myhtical 'Aussie drop-bear', Bill? Well, Minnie was drop-cat/dash-cat/ leap-cat, with enough energy to run a a valve amp.
While G would come for a walk around our cul-de-sac road (they do still), Minnie would join-in but on one's shoulders, giving one a vibrator massage the while! Plus a few gentle treadings wiv the claws!
And, she preferred Haydn, for lap sittings!
Miss her? > 6 yrs later? Still? yep! esp Tisha - she WAS her cat really. I think they communicated in a special dimension!
GGGIII too was very subdued - for weeks after. I let him see her mangled body after I brought her home, and he just sat by her body all that arvo, until Tish & the boys came home, and we could all bury her! G helped us by scratching the leaf litter over her!

She was obviously one of the very "special" pets that occur from time to time, and one who leaves a very big hole in the lives of a family when they are no longer with us...Beyond the pain of loss, however, there are always fond memories that get played in the "skull cinema" of those involved... IMO periodic replays of such memories, with gentle smiles on the lips, simply gives a grateful acknowledgement that the fates had blessed us with their presence, and is the least that the memory of these pets deserve...
There is a very simple and obvious explanation for this, Bill. Cats don't speak "Herdish".
Ergo grex, ergo sum.
