I had some time to kill this past weekend and popped in to our nearest music store to browse. I had no real intent to buy, just decided on the spur of the moment to pay the store a visit...To cut a long story short, I walked out with three CD's that I am really enjoying...
1) "Getz/Gilberto" - Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto (Verve Classic Re-Issue)
2) "Blue Note Plays Jobim" - various Blue Note artists (Blue Note)
3) "From This Moment On" - Diana Krall (Verve)Disk 1) is a real pleasure - I've long enjoyed Getz' "Jazz Samba" (with Charlie Byrd) - and this album is even better.
Disk 2) provides some interestigly different treatments of the works of Jobim (with contributions by Vinicio de Moraes) - a lucky find...
Disk 3) - released in 2006, after "The Girl in the Other Rom" - shows Diana return to her pre-Elvis Costello program material and, personally, I prefer it.
Follow Ups:
I like to be both aurally and visually stimulated.... ;-)
I have several, but not Getz/Gilberto. My favorites include:Anniversary and Serenity (newer and really nice)
Pure Getz (older album, but I just got it on SACD)He really has that something that makes me love to listen.
Enjoy
If you like Getz, try and pick up "Focus"!
