I was more than a little surprised to see that one of the local mega-movie chains, United Artists, was broadcasting the entire Metropolitan Opera season in HD on one of their screens (not all at once - just on certain dates). In fact, one entire side of their marquee out by the street is devoted to just the performance dates. Knock me over with a feather. So there is some culture still kicking around here in the middle of the States. So anything like this in your neighborhood?

*Plus a few other international opera houses efforts, and our own company the AO. And two HIP opera mobs who work with the 'ABrandenburgOrch', or 'The Orchestra of the Antipodes'.So much for us 'uncultured Aussies!'
Australia supplies more HIP instrumentalists to the world than any other country. Your NYTimes called our Australian Chamber Orchestra the world's finest chamber orchestra.

That is some surprisingly good news from down under (and I do love the New York Times). Glad to hear about it! Otherwise we're just left with your posts and Sox's post to figure out what is going on down there.Seriously, hope the weather is treating you right for once.
I haven't seen anything like that here in Seattle. As a parent, I like the idea of taking the kids to the megaplex to see Don Giovanni. I haven't much got into the idea of taking them to evening concerts; I'm always too run out by the end of the work day. But a Saturday afternoon, at the cineplex, strikes me as a good idea.
I worry that the theater sound would be boomy... but maybe my kids would like that. And there's popcorn, :-)
Here's a schedule and some information for the HD screenings. Good luck.

Hey, thanks, eppis1! This is not too far; maybe I'll try to drum up some interest in this at my house. The 10:30 time here in Seattle is not bad -- and I have never seen Barber of Seville. The cost is $18 for adults -- but it is after all a 3 hour performance. $15 for kids.
...in the ticket search engine (if you haven't already). When I did the search, I just tried the first Seattle zip code I could find. It might be playing in a theater nearer your home base.
Regards
