I strained a deep shoulder muscle while taking down a tree for a neighbour a couple of weeks back. It's been really buggin' me and then, last night, while out trying to round up the cats - who took off to investigate another cat - I slipped on a patch of black sidewalk ice. Threw out my arms to try to attempt to maintain some semblance of balance and it felt like somebody had either shot me, I'd been hit by lightning or had a 220v cattle prod stuck in my shoulder. Down to one knee, yelping. Janita had to come help me up and back into the house. Did Not Spend A Lovely Night. Nope, No Sir. Not At All.
Feeeeeyuck - damn but that hurts. All hopped up on 282 muscle relaxants and in a sling this morning. Ice, heat, ice, heat. I feel like crawling up in a little ball in the corner and crying.
Sob, whine, snivel...just had to get that out of my system - on with your day lads.

Ergo grex, ergo sum.
Hope your discomfort eases soon, Jac...
but damn - I'm on an alcohol hiatus. It is such a good idea though. Hmmmmmm.
Alternatives? Alternatives?
Morphine - that's a start.
Demerol - ohhhhh, we like Demerol. Brings back many memories of post hockey game traumas.
Sharp light tap behind the ear with a lead-filled leather pouch.
Maybe not that.I'll keep any and all suggestions in mind.
delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol???

I think I may need a double-shot of that-there Demerol stuff if my beloved Gophers play as lousy tonight as they did last week. It's Final Five time here in the WCHA, and last evening Wisconsin made mincemeat out of Michigan Tech.Guess who play tonight? Yup, the winner of last night's battle. Think I'm gonna have me some of them "post hockey game traumas" of my own round-bout 10:00 or so tonight...
Ergo grex, ergo sum.

Sorry to hear you're in a sling & hurting.I had knee surgery back in Dec. & the pain was pretty excruciating. On my first Drs. visit afterwards, I told the Doc the painkillers weren't working, so I added some alcohol. He said use one or the other, as the combo caused liver damage.
I was taking meperidine, which I'm guessing is more potent than muscle relaxers, so your combo may not be that bad.
I was using a topical spray before I did the final damage to the knee, which caused it to lock up a few days later, but it worked very well for temp. relief. It's called Stopain.
I should buy a vat of that stuff and bathe in it. ;~)
Sorry to hear about that, jac! That's got to be mighty painful.I pulled a clever stunt using my mountain bike, my hand and the frame of a garage door last weekend. My left hand looks like a softball, and it now takes me forever to type a post like this.
Get better, buddy!
... as these things tend to come in threes....So far:
1) The "Mate got the D700's" saga
2) The "Jac hits the ground" saga
3) ?????For what it's worth, you have my "empathies" (which are worth much more than "sympathies") on both instances - and will also keep knees frimly crossed to help ward off the third "saga"...

with some very old single malt scotch, that the pain miraculously disappears. (in your shoulder, I can't guaraqntee your head the next day!)
