My wife was mugged tonight. Man. It was right outside a Walgreens, not even far from the store. She was smart and made copies of all credit cards and checks not too long ago.
Is there a checklist of things that should be done other than deactivating bank accounts, credit cards and cell phone?
The police came and there were two nice ladies as witnesses. We're in urban area so I hope the police can spend time on it.

There was only a spare car key in the purse and that car is in the garage. We spent over two hours at the bank yesterday.
My stomach still sinks every time I think about somebody punching my wife. I wish it were me but these wimps always go for the easier targets. If they want excitement why not go for a guy who lift weights or knows martial arts. I was taught never to hit girls.
It’s bad news when that happens but glad to hear things weren’t any worse.
change your locks now.
I would contact the three credit report agencies and put an alert on her accounts (after applying for replacement credit cards and changing your accounts at the bank). This will prevent anyone from obtaining her credit information and thus prevent them from getting cards, bank accounts, loans etc. The alert is effective for 90 days and I suspect most identity thefts will have moved on to easier targets by then.
I may be an egoist but at least I don't talk about other people.
to make sure no phony accounts have been opened in her name, in the event the thief got hold of a social security number, drivers license number, birthdate, etc. The immediate monetary loss may be nothing compared to what identity theft can do in the long run.

Thanks. Will do that. No ss card in there but drivers license. Seemed to everyone these were kids doing it for fun but I guess you can't be too careful.
Thankfully, she's ok.> > We're in urban area so I hope the police can spend time on it.
Actually it was in a suburb. We're right on the border. There were four police officers, they took a swab for DNA-one officer just got a kit that day, took her picture to show the bruise etc. They used her phone but didn't spend any money and hopefully the police will track down the numbers they called.
I'm really disturbed to hear of your wife getting mugged, but these idiots seem to have given into the cell phone abuse temptation, which is a great way to track them.I've noticed in a few crime reports of thieves using cell phones leading to their apprehension. There's a reason these scumbags are criminals and not rocket scientists.
I do hope they're caught ASAP.
That can be traumatizing. Hope she is ok and they catch the bastards.

The purse and inconsequential contents will likely be found within a 3 or 4 block radius of the scene of crime. In an alley dumpster or somebody's garbage can. If you're lucky, things not of immediate value may be with the purse, such as a driver's license. Credit cards will likely be taken, but those can easily be stopped. In fact, anything with an account attached should be terminated. This happened in my household many years ago. The purse and some contents were found a week later within 3 blocks, in a garbage can.
It's worth a little leg work.
