Using an I-pod? You're messin' with a dinosaur, here. I can't even figure out how to use the I-pod I was given in November!Dinosaur, dinosaur, where do you roam?
Dinosaur, dinosaur far far from home

A writer of bullshit is the man called Dinosaur.Dinosaur, Dinosaur Where do you roam?
Dinosaur, dinosaur, Far, far from home.He travels on by gimping wherever he must
A bent back from arthritis is his badge of trustThere are campfire legends that the trailmen spin
Of the man with the back that's sore
Of the man called Dinosaur.Dinosaur, Dinosaur Where do you roam?
Dinosaur, Dinosaur Far, far from home
Far from home. Far from home.

about the adapter. Wasn't there one in the box? I thought there was one in the box. Did Jim swipe it?Anyway, with a basic Rat Shack adapter, you can hook that puppy into your main system, or your secondary system. That's the only way to judge the thing.
Not hardly. In fact, Jim sent Gayle out to Radio Shack to buy one for himself when the little dickens arrived, and it's now seeing use in the office computer set-up (TA-10 and B&W's). Hell, I even left the batteries in the thing, and still Mikee complains! I give up.
Ergo grex, ergo sum.

The "Sonic Impact T amp" (aka "The plastic joke) is a very "cheap and cheerful" implementation of a low power (about 7w into 8 Ohms!) amp apparently originally produced for beachcombers, etc. who wanted easily portable music (these amps run off a 12VDC supply)...Someone, however, apparently decided to connect the amp up to "domestic" hi-fi components, was very surprised at the results, and mentioned this to friends... Since the purchase-price was so low, more folk took the gamble to find out for themselves, and the word spread...
Reviewers from 6moons and TNTAudio decided that they would have to see what any fuss was about, and both reported surprisingly good results that represented astonishing value, when paired with suitable good quality equipment...
There are obvious economies that have been made in producing an amplifier for the initial $30 purchase-price, and - especially for those who have basic adequate soldering skills - markedly improved results can be delivered by replacing the input capacitors, input and speaker connectors, power capacitors, and inductors for less "industrial" choices...
If you have 6 months to spare, enter diyaudio.com, select "Class D" forum, and in the Search box type "T amp"... There's LOTS of comment about various options for improvement, but recommend reading up on "The Stealth Mod" as probably the best cost-effective mod...
Sorry about that, but you did ask!...
Bill.
In that I view all MP3 players as delivering such poor quality that using such a player in connection with an obviously flawed** T amp would insult the amp!...** What the hell would you expect for $30?... IMO the real surprise is how far one can go when partnered with decent equipment and ancillaries (and definitely including sensitive speakers!)... With input capacitors replaced (circa 2.2uf, from 0.33uf) the frequency response can be commendably linear down to under 20Hz, which means that those seeking (a rather better-than-average, IMO) accuracy from a modestly-powered amp could find a solution to their needs for comparatively very little cash... (Those looking for an obviously coloured "lush" or "warm" delivery should, however look elsewhere)...
The "revealing" nature of the T amp would, IMO, simply serve to underline the inadequacies of any source... You can do better than an iPod as source, surely, Mike?...
I'm obviously not a master of the obvious. Sheesh!

and one of the 657 drugs they were giving me was making my tinnitus ROAR, not just a slight hiss. So, the Ipod with the damned ear plugs sounded like a good idea...but I couldn't figure out how to work it.Luckily, the medicine they were giving me was stopped before I went insane. I tried the damned thing one more time after I got home and figure it's made for fingers smaller than a size 10 frying pan.
So it sits.

I have one too, and so does Sordidman.
I use an iRiver MP3 player.
The reason I have an iPod is because the Shuffle I bought for my wife two years ago.....shuffled. Well, we can't have that! So now she has a T-sonic 610, and I have the Shuffle.
I say, ahem!

that was one of my favorite shows. Hence the appropriateness of dinosaur, eh?
how do I feed the T-amp? I got nothing but an I-pod for a source and don't know how to use it, let alone anything else. If it doesn't have an RCA, I don't know what it do. I've never even connected up a balanced unit, even though most of my gear has balanced outputs along with their RCA's.So these mini-plug units make little sense.

You goes to RatShack and gets yourself a stereo single male mini-jack to two female RCA jack adapters. Cost? Under $3.00 last I checked. I'll check when I get home, maybe I have one......in fact I am sure I do.Then you stick the male end of the mini-jack adapted into the T-Amp, and plug your interconnects into the female RCA side. Voila!
I thunked you was kidding at first.
I used one of those on a TV I converted to listen to the audio...many, many years before they began putting audio out jacks on TVs!I should probably get a kick-back for the idea...right? Let's see. I did that early in the 70's...I suppose the electronic companies owe me a few billion by now...whaddaya think?
