For you wheelheads, this is noteworthy:

Details here.
Follow Ups:
just don't call me late to supper, but I still think that style is neater than the Formula 1 designs of today. That looks like a race car, not just a technological design formula to win a race.
to win races.magnesium and aluminium alloys, independent suspension front, AND rear! huge finned drum-brakes etc etc.
The Mercedes car for the same (3 liter eng. capacity) formula!!!! Engine V12, giving 420bhp @ 7800 rpm - one supercharger per bank of 6, 2 by 2 (4) inclined valves per cylinder, dohcams, combustion chambers integral with the block, and roller-bearings on the crank and on all else too, yes, even the water pumps.
In 1939 they put two blowers in series IE two-stage supercharging - with pressures of 34lb's/sq.in. with reliability! Ie more than two atmospheres giving 485bhp @ 7000 rpm!
The D-wagen was IIRC the first A-Union GP car with OHC heads, all the previous used pushrod OHV heads!!! Supercharged, of course!

Imgaine this is is the mid 1950s and you are sitting on your Godfather's balcony overlooking the OLD race circuit in Melbourne City.Watching Jack Brabham drive a rare rear-engined streamliner Cooper-Bristol he had built for themin the UK. Moss in a Maser 250F, and Davidson in a newish 'blown'125 (1.5 V12 avec supercharger) Fazza. The Myabach Special was there too. And heaps of blown T-series MG's.
Two Jag 120 C-types (the Le Mans cars before the D-type?)
And, you are five years old!!!!!
Me? yep!

So few safety features meant it was truly you against the machine and your opponent.I'm with you all - love the older styling.
Nuvolari did NOT like any of them!!Swing axle rear supension on a rear engined car?!!!!!
&*&^%$#@ Narsssstyyyy - I reckon!
Even MB's very-low-pivot version was eventually dropped!
I have rolled two Beetles and one beach-buggie so I know them well.
And, if you added a compensator bar to the rear of a Beetle, you ended up with even more spin-outs!!!!

And if I were a rich man (deedle deedle deedle dum), I'd love to get my hands on it.I'll keep my eye on that auction to see how it goes for in the end.
