I was thinking either, "Anybody ever had some audio gear thrown away by somebody else" or "This really killed the warm fuzzies I was enmeshed in".I've been helping out this friend of my boy's with some inexpensive pieces & got him a great deal on a Sony receiver. Since I know an electronics tech, I got it fixed for $40.00-that was the entire cost of the unit. I had sold him a nice vintage Sherwood earlier but this was replacing it & I was getting back the Sherwood to use as a tuner/preamp in my garage system. I also gave him a Denon receiver but the tuner didn't work, but used it as power only w/the Sherwood.
So he tells me tonight that there's a problem getting the stuff back to me-his dad threw them out.
Follow Ups:
my son left a 200 watt amp that was about 1 year old, an old Sansui receiver from the "transformers bigger than a bread truck" days, a Denon tuner that was 2 years old, and 5 heavy steel lawn chairs. My wife says that she doesn't want to hear compaints and old history is old history, but she never acknowledges that the house was sold before we moved to this one (the beginning of October), and needed to be "cleared" by January 30th, and she never began moving anything until about Jan 3rd.
BUT, if I make the mistake of saying, "what happened to the..." she goes ballistic.
List of "lost" items"
"Marilyn", signed by Norman Mailer
Too many pre-1800's erotica to mention, including a first edition of Frank Harris's autobiography.
None collectible, but all of the Steinbeck's plus all other American literature I'd accumulated for 20 years.
At least 20 etymology books, including some early (1800's and early 1900's) "American language" books.
the amps and tuner
the chairs
a foot massager that was a gift to me from a very good friend (hot water foot massage...mmmmm!)
A 1 year old Electrolux rug shampooerShould I continue or are you sick to your stomach already?
I guess having so many books that you need to store a few hundred in the attic is absurd, but...
She left that stuff but made sure to bring the old Stereophiles, TAS, Audio, and other mags that were right beside the other books. I like having those, but I'd trade them all for the "Marilyn".
But if I'm stupid enough to say "Why did you leave..." I have to hide for a week.

If I had more money I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LPs!
The most painful though was when I had bought the Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks album with the contents of my penny jar (literally!) at 13 years of age. I had it for a year when I lent it to a guy who's mum was a born again type Christian. Long story short, she found it and chucked it. Mucho pissed, even though ostensibly I was trying to fit into the born again bunch myself.
My predecessor (my wife's late husband) got rid of her entire LP collection without her consent. Supposedly he was a believer in "perfect sound forever", and no, while it may appear to have been justified, that action was not the direct cause of his demise.....
a couple of meters of rather expensive tone-arm wire (not retrievable) - which promptly led me to briefly consider corporal punishment. I went for a long walk instead.
Which brings me around to the view of a certain comic I used to work with. He would ask, "Why do we call them the "Ex"? Shouldn't they be the "Y"? As in "Why the F#*K did I ever marry her/him in the first place?"
