..........This will test your metal.
From the Sydney Morning Herald.\\\American professor Paul Bosland recalls taking a bite of a chili pepper and feeling like he was breathing fire.
He gulped down a soda, thinking "That chili has got to be some kind of record".
The Guinness Book of World Records agreed, confirming recently that Bosland, a regents professor at New Mexico State University, had discovered the world's hottest chili pepper, Bhut Jolokia, a naturally occurring hybrid native to the Assam region of north-eastern India.
The name translates as ghost chili, Bosland said.
"We're not sure why they call it that, but I think it's because the chili is so hot, you give up the ghost when you eat it," he said.
Bhut Jolokia comes in at 1,001,304 Scoville heat units, a measure of hotness for a chili. It is nearly twice as hot as Red Savina, the variety it replaces as the hottest.
By comparison, a New Mexico green chili contains about 1,500 Scoville units; an average jalapeno measures at about 10,000///
Hot stuff!

Follow Ups:
Dave's Insanity sauce. It is hot beyond description. It is WAYY too hot to eat. Literally 5 drops in a gallon of chili will make it "Texas Hot". The stuff is so hot that it is almost past being useful. Hard to tell what all is ACTUALLY in it.
roN
.......but has the same name.It is supposedly over ”14 000 000” scovilles!!!
Also it is priced at 200 smackers.
I think this stuff will kill a brown dog at ten paces!

Me arsehole is already running up the white flag and begging for mercy.
I think that if you grew up on this kind of "heat" you could likely handle something that hot but for a kid who's mother thought that "hot spice" was ground black pepper... well, suffice it to say - I'll take a pass.I did get into something called "Korean Fire Oil" once - won't do that again, and we used to throw a handful of hot chillies into a 40oz bottle of tequila and let that soak for a few days. A shot of this concoction was mainly for those young gentlemen who thought they were 7ft tall and bulletproof. I've seen a couple of lads of Central/S. American/Caribbean bent knock a few back without flinching. I also noticed they'd be sipping on a milk/cream based cocktail as a back-up. They weren't nearly as stoopid as the local cowboys who were chasing those shots with some variation of domestic beer - which only served to spread the vicious oils around their mouths.
Silly boys.

While I enjoy a little heat, some of the stuff marketed is absolutely crazy. The hottest sauce I have tried was 1,500,000 scoville units and it hurt.Once we had to evacuate the house, as my son decided to try to put some on a hamburger he was making. A drop fell onto the hot skillet and the fumes quickly went through the house, stinging eyes and freezing up lungs.
