If you have access to your attic, how about infinite baffle?By the way, one good way to keep summertime temps down in the attic is to use a good ventilation fan for air flow.
Follow Ups:
The disadvantage to infinite baffle in an attic is that the sound will carry outside...NAF(neighbor acceptance factor)very low...:-(Here's a link to a ventilation fan that should work quite well.

For those who are hospitalized or incarcerated and have enough time on their hands to read it thoroughly, the review of this device by J. Peter Montcrieff is required reading. It can be found by following the links on the ET site.Montcrieff makes the case that it is so superior to all other subwoofers that it renders them nearly useless by comparison. I spoke with Bruce Thigpen at CES 2006 about his invention and came away mightily impressed even though the TRW-17 was on silent display due to the concerns of show management.
I like big a** front loaded horn subwoofers a lot, though they don't extend down to DC!
That "fan" will eliminate the heat build-up AND eliminate "the neighbor problem." In fact, it will probably eliminate the whole neighborhood! It's earthquake time -- let 'er rip and hang on tight!
