i heard a set of some version of Altec 604s in a pair of old Altec utility cabinets - i think a 312. basically a 3 cubic foot. bass reflex. at the time i thought they sounded great so i measured the box and built my own based on those measurements, just altered the port width and height (same cubic inch area) for aesthetic reasons. i put a pair of 604Ks i had in and could not get those to sound right ... tried a set of 604-8Gs and they sound good but the bass just isn't there. not sure what the difference was when i heard first that pair of 604 i mentioned but i'm realizing after looking through the old posts that 6 or 9 cu ft boxes are best for these.any hope for these boxes so they don’t go to waste? suggestions on anything fun to try with these - i'm wondering if this would make a decent bass box and perhaps add a horn or full ranger speaker on top? anyone else use 604s in small boxes?
i'm fairly novice at speaker building but having fun tinkering - any suggestions appreciated. thanks for reading through this.

maybe using the original dimensions would help?
Augspurger's ventwrk says 3 cubic foot with original 2"x7" vent 3/4" deep tunes 56.41Hz and 1" x 14" vent 3/4" deep tunes 64.33Hz!
3 cu ft is enough for a sub, using a sub driver. It won't be high efficiency, but toss a couple of hundred watts at it and will still do a pretty good job.
