i think i am in a good situation but sadly i need to get rid one set of speaker among these three. 1) The magnificent 2) model 19 3) The valencia. They are all nice speakers and each has their own characters but all are very efficeient espeically the magnificent. I like the magnificent with my SET setup due to it's sensitivity but lacking the bass which the model 19 has. I like the valencia because it's got strong bass which is just right for me but lacking on the highs that i'm looking for probably due to the 806 used instead the 802 for the magnificent and the 19. I also like the 19s for the mids and highs but the bass is little to much thump for my taste IMHO.i listen to all kind of music and really depends on my mood. All my equipments are tube stuffs some PP and some SET but no transistor stuffs. Yes, i spin vinyl and also at time uses CDP. My room size is 20 x 15
i need to downsize a bit to make wife happy, so one pair has to go which one and why. I know some of these are not easily replace once i got rid of it and that's why i Like to know what everyone thinks.
Please also consider the collectability of these equipment has anything to do with your decision.

George, i have not decided which pair to let go yet. it seems like 19 is the pair to keep based on feedbacks from freinds and people who has knowledge. i do like the overall musical balance particularlly the mids of the 19s. i probably looking into selling either the magnificent or the valencia. Selling either one is like losing good friends.......Tom, i know you like the 19s overall. But among your other postings you said if a HF tweeter is added to the valencia that will bring out the best of this smaller unit. If i do this add on how's that comparing to the 19s, espcially the mids and highs??
When you have some time sit down and read the entire thread linked below. There's enough there to give you an idea of what your not hearing with the Altec HF drivers. The thread, toward the end, also shows what the Model 19 EQ'ed xover does to the mids and that is somwething else you were asking about. Of course the ultimate "fix" for better HF's has to sound good to you but this thread should be helpful.
If you decide to sell your 19s, let me know. I would be interested. Where are you located?
If you lived in the USA, you could rent nearby storage space to store the presently un-used equipment & thereby retain pocession. And no matter where you live, if you have some real friends or relatives, you could store your equpment at their homes & allow them to enjoy for now. You might not always live in an appartment & might not (according to satistics, mind you) retain the same wife. Now older, I have 3 Hi-Fi systems in of course 3 different rooms of a 3-story home because none of them sound best when echoing thru the halls when I'm in another area than the Hi-fi.
I'd keep the Nineteens, they certainly have the widest range and are IMO the finest one-box turnkey system Altec (or anybody else) ever made.
