I have the Ocellia Kedros III speakers with PHY-HP KM30SAG Silver drivers. I love them so much, but I consider to find a super tweeter to add more energy on the high frequencies.Candidates are... TLR1 ribbon; MuRata ES103(105); Visaton TL 16 H 8 ohm horn; Fostex t500 AmkII, etc.
Follow Ups:
You have everything you need. If you don't like the sound, you either have problems upstream or have burnt the tweets out from too much current. Besides, you have to open the backs of the drivers to disconnect the supertweeter....not a good idea.Otherwise I would guess you have simply spent too much time listening and acclimating yourself to shrill 'High End Audio' crap. :(
If neither of these is the fact, you need to change to compression driver horns. I heard a nice little Onken type system, using a 250hz horn with modified BMS co-axial niodymium driver and 15" BR. This is a good introduction to horns, and could be a nice next step. However, PHY still does some things better, and I would hang onto them. :)
To REALLY upgrade, you must be prepared to spend quite a lot of $.
Maybe is interesting for you the fact that my KM 30 (not sag) are doing great music with a Fostex T900. Cut off point 8.000 Hz.
Cheers
They are so perfectly balanced. Maybe you are not getting the best from your equipment or interconnects?
My recommendation will be the GOTO SG06 tweeter - 98dB just perfect to match with PHY-HP KM30SAG at 97dB.
Consider Tonian Acoustics' ribbon supertweeters. Why? Because all his speakers employ ribbon supertweeters that augment wideband drivers. And, specific to your situation, he builds speakers with Phy drivers...so he has the integration down. His TLM-1 is the best speaker I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Also, he knows Ocellia because he used to carry them.
I wouldnt consider the 1st 3 on this list and t500amk2 while probly the best hifrequincy transducer I have heard you would need to reduce level by 12-13db to match and if you use t500amk2 use r100t.But raven r2 matchs without attenuation and is a great match to phy drivers.
I would roll driver tubes in the amp before I messed with the speakers.Les
