Hi all,Parts Express has the Aurum Cantus ribbon line on sale for 30% off.
Is anyone using the G2Si? I'm thinking of trying it with JBL 2118Js crossed at 5Khz. Comments would be great!!

Thanks for the input.
When I changed my tweeter from G2 to G3, the improvements were way more than the simple size difference would indicate.I just never quite liked any speakers I've heard with G2 as the sole tweeter, but 5kHz is high enough not to be a problem as far as distortion near X-over, even at 12dB slope.
I use the G2 from time to time, it is similar to the G2si I think, I have used alot of 4k xo with it..no less than 2nd..higher order is better if high volume is needed..I am going to tri-amp this round & active..waiting on the XO unit..I haven't blown a ribbon in the G2 yet & I push it sometimes..
I'm curious. Which XO are you going to try. I thought you had already tried and rejected that approach.
Going to try it again.I didn't give the Ashly a fair shake..it was noisy because I didn't know what the heck I was doing..at least the hum I was getting..I also have EQ & active XO on the way so I can try to see if I can get the B200 to do what I want it to..I will start @ 4k again..& go from there. If EQ is not to huge a trade off, I will be useing one....the G2 has major potential, but I have to do it active..mabe a mixture of PLLXO & active....
Watch out with an active on the ribbons. Not just startup/shutdown transients, but even just a bumped cable, and poof! you need to install another ribbon.Even passive second order at 3kHz with the G2 or G2Si, we've seen the ribbon start to sag after a tough session with Nine Inch Nails. These ribbons sound really good, but they are fragile in ways that are different from the usual tweeters.
What would be a good way to protect the G2 while running active..I will be using small SET's on it.??.3w max,..If a cap on it would help, what value would you suggest to let me take full advantage of trying differance active XO's, will be trying nothing under 2500hz.mostly from about 3k & up.I am actually going to try 2 ribbons front & rear fire in the future..I allready have them. Or should I just calculate a 1st order HP for it & it would just be another order,,not including phase issue's & all that..
We just make sure to have the amp on standby whenever we start up, and whenever we fool around in the signal chain we shut off the tweeter amps. Of course this means no clicks or pops are allowed at shut down. And I keep a bunch of spare ribbons on hand.BTW we have measured G3, G2, G2si at various times. G3 is certainly a better driver for going deeper. Alon Wolfe put G3s in Paul Stubblebine's Magicos, which we crossed over at 2kHz, 4th order, but not without considerable fretting about resonance issues near the crossover point. The G2 and G2si measure surprisingly close to each other. I use G2si in my own Straight 8s (crossed at about 3500Hz). Have some G2s I'm saving to use with some PHLs. Between the two 2 models I don't think you're losing much going with the less expensive si version if you can live with a little less sensitivity.
