Hey FredI somehow think the musical selections will tend towards the bass end to plumb the depths of the subs. I'll bring: Jean Guillou's "Pictures at an Exhib." for organ; the mighty Atlantic City Exhibition Hall organ (can't wait to hear those blowers start up, and the Imperial Tubas voiced at 100 inches of mercury); James Carter's "Nuages" on bass sax; some other stuff too. You just reminded me that I have to get around to glueing my grandfather's uke back together. Now if I put a contact mic on it and run it through my Fender Super Reverb....Heavy Hula!
Bassicly Yours
hey Paul - did they ever issue a music CD of the organ fully restored? Bass sax, cello, drums, and bowed bass might be helpful to hear how Don did with TH vs front-horn sub. Get Don to play Steve Clarke's "Solo Drums" cd and see how that hangs.
--had reflex drone one note on bowed bass, horn smear on drums but no good with stuff - rite now messing with Khorn, damping k400 with duct seal, etc and just seems futilehere's something DIY which kinda looks like a bass-banjo-uke
FredI don't know how far they have gotten with the ACEH organ, I got the impression that they would be at it for quite awhile, what with over 33,000 pipes and all. It's nice to compare it to the largest fully functional pipe organ in the world: the Wannamaker organ now in the Lords and Taylor dept store in Philadelphia. The Wannamaker sounds in tune and quite subtle as well as big, and the high pressure blower puts out 25 inches of mercury. The ACEH sounds kinda out of tune by comparison, but just staggeringly big. I think the ACEH will always be the biggest. I've never heard the Steve Clarke CD, I hope Don has it.
never got to hear live organ for 30+ years. Don probably has Clarke's CD - nots quite jazz but good try for two nearly 20 minute solos - its relaxing - have him crank it
I like out of tune stuff and bowed bass played slightly flat - Freddy
