If you had a pair would you sell them or use them? Also, are the plastic side caps that are glued on neeeded.....and if anyone knows the specs (from ess "rock monitor") that would be appreciated.
Follow Ups:
I use them in conjunction with a pair of fostex FF225k drivers in Rethm "The Second" cabinets. Crossover is active at 2k, 4th order LR, at the moment, but changes often
On the 4th order active part. I hadn't heard the heil before working with this one. Maybe it isn't up to spec? I found it a little aggressive and harsh/grainy sounding. I guess I was expecting more laid back like some ribbons can be.....all of this compared to a compression driver/CD horn.I did screw up and had the CD boost in on the crossover at first...maybe I need to give them another try. Thanks.
I had a pair of AMT Towers and really enjoyed the mids and highs. I had them measured my a friend of mine and they are a 6 ohm impedence and have a sensitivity of 93 db. I originally intended on building a three way with these using Audax PS170's for the mids and 320's I believe for the bass. They both have spec's showing high sensitivity so it would appear they would work well with this speaker. I also looked at crossing the mid over at about 3000 hz and allow the Heil to really funtion in the tweeter range where I believe it's strenght really lies. I have not gotten around to building these but a couple of guys that I was communicating with at the time thought this would be a very good combination. They also believed the xover would be very key to getting a seamless transition.Hope this helps a little.

I build modern hi-eff systems using AMT style transducers have messed about with the vintage ones good stuff why not use them in a project.
I have a pair of AMT1s which sound very good! That tweeter provides a sense of realism that I don't get out of my Fostex single driver speakers, though the single drivers provide better soundstage. I would estimate the efficiency of the AMT1s at somewhere around 93db.OTOH, the woofer performance, and the integration between the woofer and tweeter are not great. I rebuilt the xovers with polyprop caps and that helped, but the bass is still a little flabby, and sometimes you can really hear the transition between the two drivers.
Somebody well known in the audio biz (Paul Joppa maybe???)uses a pair of these with "faster" woofers and reworked crossovers. I saw that on Web site somewhere. The stock xover pads the tweeter down a good bit, so the right woofer choice could yield a more efficient package. The trick would be to find a woofer that has a similar "voice" to the tweeter near the xover point, as the stock woofer does not match very well.
2 pair of amt4 units i have wont be going anywhere either.plastic side caps ?
im sure if you call them in sacramento they can help.
I always regret selling the AMT-1 Towers I bought in 1975 & think that with a improved woofer and little work on the xover they would still be viable. Sold them to a fellow whose cats did paramilitary exercises on the wraparound grills.
