For Dorm Room? Give yr head a Shake.. You are aledgedly buying this for your Daughter She actually Needs a reciever or Mini system .. Not some Goofy fragile tube thing of dubious pedigree :-)
Follow Ups:
I know it might seem exsesive, but we built these folded voight pipes for her dorm room and that Crown FRIED the drivers so I wanted something with a little less power and I figure it is never too early to get the young ones involved. Cheers.
I recommend that you connect an incandescent light bulb in the speaker wiring. You can calculate the value needed, but basically you want that light bulb to start to light up when a dangerously strong signal is input to the speakers. Your daughter and her friends will be able to crank the power up as high as they like, but after a certain point the volume will not go up any higher -- at that point the light show will begin. (Actually, it won't be a very exciting light show, but anyway, you'll have a pair of speakers that cannot be blown by any amplifier.
Greets!Buy her one of these, cheap and with only 3/4 W it will begin distorting so bad at dorm room levels she won't keep it 'cranked' for long enough to hurt either it or the speakers and when she tires of it you'll have a nice little horn amp:

hey Bare - theres something about Chinese steel used for cases (including some DAC) which reminds me of soup cans. many years back I pulled apart a toy made in Japan and it still had lithograph on inside surface.wonder what grade of steel is used for the output xformer's laminations? (Hammond had something shameful called "M20")
