Hi John, my Altec system was straight from the cienima and I thought they were audiophile quality. Just my opinion. Cheers.
My mistake I gather Dennis. See my apology below.I just know that the poster has nice articulate single driver speakers and I was thinking by comparison he might be disappointed as I was when I got some vintag JBl massive pro type speakers.
http://www.jblpro.com/pub/cinema/4675c_48.pdfThis is what I use. I did substitute tad td-4001 for the horns. These speakers are better sounding than my JBL L300 Summit speakers. The L300 sound very good but the 2-way cinema series are at a higher sound quality level. They were easily driven by a single pair of 45 mono blocks. I now biamplify them with a Marchand vacuum tube active speakers crossover. I do not think your blanket statement is entirely valid for the whole line of JBL Cinema Series speaker systems.

"Steer away from it."
"I know because I made that mistake already."
While I agree they have no WAF they do sound very good. There is no horn shout and the bass is tight and goes deep enough for my needs. To each their own I guess. John
ok, sorry. I hope that was my only really bad post in a while.I guess I was thinking the 'pro' type of series?
I have some massive JBL horn speakers and I was disappointed from the moment I heard them. I had purchased them without hearing them. I found them a little blunt compared what I was use to. What I do like about them is their high sensitivity (104 db I think)
I am a little less disappointed in them now since I am stuck with them. These speakers are really made for concert type of performances, and the further away from them the better they sound.
