Hi,MANY THANKS for the brocuhure pages. Appreciated. I think the reason mine might not be in there is that the speakers I bought are "Frazier-May" and the brochure is before (or after) they broke up as a partnership and so just the "Frazier" company.
The amp is an EL509 SET that I saw on eBay. I wanted a triode amp so I just went for it. Unfortunately no schematics or anything come with it so the circuit would have to be reverse engineered if anything goes wrong. Apparently it uses the well regarded One Electron UBT2 trannies, so I figured at THAT price I couldn't go too wrong.
Do you know of ANY resources online that might have more data for the Frazier-May combo?
Thanks again
wow ! - you stole that amp - there should be other readers of this forum who know Frazier-May history. I have one Dixielander Jr. I built a rough SET with UBT-1 and looks about 1/1000 as nice as yours.
Yeah...no question....I got lucky on that one. it "seems" that someone designed it well, but who knows how it will really sound? I was not willing to bid much higher because I figure my investment was really in the trannies if the overall circuit was not well done or was too complicated etc. But heck....you can't even get a decent piece of crap from overseas delivered for that price. I liked that it had adjustable feedback because I was not sure when I purchased it what kind of HE speakers I might find. I'm wondering what drivers to hunt down for the FM's. It sounds like the guy selling them has some experience, so I'm going to pick his brain when I go to get them. Do you have any thoughts on that? It seems like I could also mount a pair of FR JBL 8" that's I have (D216's) with some kind of a baffle to cover up the 10" hole? Is that doable....or would I ruin an otherwise vintage pair of speakers? Also, if you look at the auction for the Frazier-May speakers that I just bought you'll see that the seller was also offering a SET EL34 amp. He didn't repost it yet, but he did list it once before (reserve not met) so you can see it in his completed auctions.
I'm going to ask if it's still for sale because it sounds like his asking price was just 150-175 which might be too tempting for me to pass up with the new tubes in it as he is describing.
if he has any more amps after you nag that EL34 - let me know - I'm in too much pain to build and the junk from Hong Kong looks crummy and not worth the shippingyou could try whatveer sounds good and fits in the Frazier-may - cool that they have decal logos
Funny that you mention the logos. Someone else e-mailed me that as well and I told him that the original logos were a big part of why I actually 'pushed the button'. I like the fact they they are included.I also told him that I would take some high quality pictures of the logos so that they could be traced in Adobe Illustrator in case anyone needs one for their speakers. I'll post here when I get them.
Karlson logos are needed too so keep your camera ready if any show - mine disintegrated which read "Ultra-Fidelity by Karlson"
Figured I ought to show y'all my Frazier F-12-4-H speakers.
