There's a lot of way to go, I can tell. Some are quick and easy, some are a lot more work. I have to think this over. That Orpheus system looks appealing to me right now. 112 dB sensitivity! I can use any amp on that one.I would have to update my bassbins which are a 10" paper cone driver in an Onken cabinet powered by 100W of SS. I used cement board inside the cabinet to brace it better and the bass quality is actually amazingly good. The amps are subwoofer amps that only go to 160 Hz. For an Orpheus, that needs 225 Hz. So a modification or a new bassbin altogether would be necessary.
The bad news is I don't have as big a footprint as I would like for this speaker. The Oris 150 I have right now is tight already, and a lot of it helps by having a relatively small bass bin. Large bass horns would be desireable, but some just won't fit in my home.
I wonder what the dimensions are for the Edgarhorn Titans, and if that's a footprint that's a bit too big. I'm trying to get the speaker to work with a 45 SET, only 1.5W per channel, but biamping is still okay. That's where the Orpheus seems to solve all the problems. It's just a bit of my time to get it together, just like the case of painting the Oris horn, etc.
I know Fostex makes speakers that don't have that shouting property that Lowthers do. But they are also not as transparent, either. Tough call there.
I'll keep thinking, but I like the idea of the Orpheus so far.
Follow Ups:
45s will drive the Edgarhorns as loud as you'd want, well over 100db with all the dynamic shading. The Titans go lower than my DIY versions with the straight horn mid bass, but they still drop off around 70hz, so you'll need a sub to fill in the bottom if you want full range. I don't know what compression driver Bruce is using these days. The vintage JBLs are the best, so do insist on them.
"The vintage JBLs are the best, so do insist on them."Have you heard the 2435? Be 3" diaphragm and neo magnet. Might just be the nicest sounding compression driver I've ever heard. Very clean mids and extended and natural highs. I heard it on a radial horn, a Community I think.
My opinion of course, I can't say what's best.
Agree a great sounding current production pro driver.Heard one used by Jeffery Jackson in a LeCleach horn at RMAF in Denver last year. Couldn't believe a current production “pro” compression driver with a Be diaphragm could be so well-behaved.
But, they ain't cheap!

Ivan---Used ones are often on ebay at 200-250 bucks a pop, cheap. I often think about buying a pair but I don't need them, I'm up to my ears in speakers now.
There's a thread about buying used on ebay between myself and djk, maybe a few months back.

The Edgarhorn Titan mid bass dimensions are 20Wx26.25H and 23.5D. The rear chamber on the mid bass 18 x 18 x 8.5 D
Kurt_s,I tried to e-mail you, but you do not accept e-mail. Can you e-mail me please?
Thank you,
Kurt,I own AER MD1s in Oris 200s and they are smoother, easier on the ears than Lowther. And I'm a big Lowther fan. The gizmos (do a search) work wonders for the 2khz peak if using Lowthers. More dough for AER though but I doubt you have heard your Oris horns at their best.
The good Doctor Edgar because he sells the 350hz raw horn and bass shells gives the diy community an option for rolling your own and at a very reasonable price considering what you get. I'm doing this now. I should have the compression driver system up and running in a month or so.
Love to buy the Orphean but for now there are out of my reach. I'm amazed at what Bert D. does.
The DEQX unit maintains the Lowther dynamics, which I feel are a little lacking with the AER drivers while smoothing the response of the driver. I have measured many higher efficiency drivers and found them all to have significant response anomolies which always were corrected the DEQX unit. The sound is better with those problems removed.I use the DEQX ( I just bought a second one) with both my Supravox OB system and the Lowther PM4A/ORIS system. Neither of these systems measured that well( in a relative sense) before DEQX correction.
