Hi Kloss,Are you talking to Jerry about these? If so, tell him I said hello.
I think that a horn or BR of any stripe would be among the last choices for these woofers (with all due respect to the late HR)...you will need to have them measured, of course, but I think you will end up with either a true open baffle, IB (which will have a bass response hump), or some variant like an open backed box. When I talked to Jerry about them years ago, we thought that a scaled up Onken might work, but I have since learned more about how T/S parameters determine enclosure type, and think that this or any other phase inverting box wouldn't be appropriate.
Good luck with your trade, and if you get them, please let us all know how you end up using them.
Follow Ups:
Jerry agreed Iam trading 3 hieff ribbon loudspeakers for the se308s.I have drawn up plans for a OB design. Will measure at madisound to see which design is best my massive BLH ,upsized Autograph,or OB.Thank you for your time and help. When finished will post a picture since these are for my own use and collection not for sale should be allowed to post a pic.
Cool. What ribbons did you trade, if I may ask? Not too many HE ribbons out there.
Good luck with the SEs, I'm sure they will be spectacular once sorted out. BTW, I just remembered Gizmo turned me on to a web site belonging to a German kid who had worked out the crossover and box to the satisfaction of a few Western Electric loudspeaker nuts. Claimed to be the ultimate. Sorry, but I couldn't find the address.
Iam trading 3 loudspeakers using hi-vi rt8 2,AMT style ribbon with fostex fw305 12in woofers in large bottom ported BR designs with double baltic birch cabs 1 1/2in T.Maybe not exactly hi-eff at 96db 4 ohms but sure play great on my low power kit.I also use ravens, mundorfs, founteks inc neo pro 5i, that ribbons truly hi-eff at 102db can run as low as 1200hz.
Sounds like you got the better part of the deal, although I'm sure the Fostex/AMT/ribbons sound nice.
Retails $2600 pair frieghts near $500 plus the 3rd speaker Jerry did some hard bargaining.I use massive hovland caps WBT crimp conectors solder, all veneer is a french polished finish, deflex, wool, cork, damping, ribbon mounts are solid 1in cherry.
what's its measured parameters? - 18" if Qt and fs are low can be fun in Karlson. P-Audio had 18" coaxial on sale for $250ea couple years ago
Freddy one of these days I will build a pair;) But not with the se308.
