I would like to clean my Duos being packed for 6 months. I moved into a new house & I'm beyond myself at this point not having any music except for Cambridge Audio radios. I would appreciate any advice for cleaning the horns & the subwoofers. I hope shortly I'll be listening to my love "ELLA". Thanks, izzy2,

Can anyone recommend a particular product they used or purchased for cleaning & waxing the horns, subwoofer that wouldn't harm the finish?
Actually any automotive product works great on the horns, back plates, and the woofers.Turtle Wax, Meguiar's, etc.
That's assuming your woofer enclosures are lacquered (not Nextel)...
Best regards,
According to Avantgarde USA the horns are made with pure, already dyed ABS and are not painted. The same material is used for some toilet seats so any non abrasive toilet cleaner should be OK. Do not use it on drivers. And better check with Avantgarde.

...At least that I can remember. :)The automotive lacquer finish has never been incorporated into the ABS.
The horns are white ABS plastic that is painted with the chosen lacquer finish.
Best regards,
http://www.avantgarde-usa.com/materials.html"The horn raw material is purest ABS (Acryl-nitril-Butadien-Styrol). The merits of this high-quality polymer are its neutral resonance behavior as well as extreme durability and resistance to wear and tear. Our standard horn designs are not varnished, but the granulated ABS is already dyed. Therefore, we obtain a high luster finish of superior quality on the front and back of the horns. Apart from the excellent quality of the finish of our horns, they are easier to maintain than sensitive varnished surfaces."
I forgot to mention that good garbage cans are also made from ABS.

Yup, you're right. I copied that back in 1998 from Avantgarde's site. Then we went to painted horns. :)So you got me. Nice catch.
Except I haven't been the distributor since 2005. And the horns are still painted. The obsolete site you found proves that I did indeed write that. And that I should take the site down. Didn't think folks went there anymore since the home page doesn't lead into the site.
Don't know about trash cans, but at one time football helmets were made of ABS...
Best regards,
...treat them as you would any fine automotive lacquer finish. Periodic waxing is plenty for mine. The paints are various German automotive colors - distributor can get you the paint code if you need some touch-up paint.
"The paints are various German automotive colors"Same paints as used on V-2 rockets and Jagdpanzers. Good stuff.
...Pearl Black (on my subs), and I believe the pearl white & green are Audi colors. Now I have the red horns, but luckily haven't scratched 'em, which is good since I have no idea of the color code. A bit frou-frou compared to your Altecs, to be sure...but it takes all kinds, right Tom?
"Your liver suffers dearly now for youthful magic moments...so rock on completely with some brand new components"
"but it takes all kinds, right Tom?"Of course. I kid around but I respect people's preferences. But I think your AVs would look best in that zimmerit anti-magnetic paste. ;-)
"I would appreciate any advice for cleaning the horns & the subwoofers."Put them in the back of an F-150 and run it through the car wash, then have them Simonized.
