I should have them by next week. I will be driveing them with either a Fi X 2a3 SET or Dynaco ST70, my room is 15 x 13. I see 3 choices1) Open Baffle - (I read that I should make them 90" high by 14" wide) to get 40hz
2) Karlson Cabinet for 12"
3) BR or inifinat baffleI'm looking for any and all recomendations, I do have some tweeters lying around that I can use too.
Follow Ups:
I have mine on 18" wide baffles that are 48" high. I think the bass goes to about 100. I supplement w/a 15" Parts Express Infinite Baffle spakers (one per side w/sub amp). This works great and gets me flat to 30hz. I think the size of the baffle is a case of diminishing returns, you'd have to get gigantic before you get to 50 or 60. If you shoot for smaller baffle and accept a higher cutoff, then fill in the bass, it's a great way to go. Check out Hawthorn Audio's Open Baffle stuff for ideas on how to implement this on a smaller baffle. On the question of a tweeter, I use an Arrum Cantus (sic?) to fill in on top. The crossover is 1uf w/L Pad. Works great. I think it's around 97db. I don't put any crossover on the SP12B.
I run similar & it is a good way to go IMO.Which Aurum Cantus do you use..? I use the G2 & only use a .22uf cap w/ no padding, but the B200's probably go a little higher or I would be in 1uf range. I also run no xo or correction on the Fullranger, Bass augmentation is a pair of 10" Vifa M26wr0908 ran by BASH plates, all on the same baffle w/ the G2 slammed 1/8" away from B200, directly on top. seems to all work very well.Variouse tube amps ran on the fullranger & if a small SET I run a high-pass on the amp..How is the EV SP12B mids..?
Hi Bobregular K12 with ~1.3 cubic foot rear chamber would have ~70-80Hz lower limit ~flat - might try em first on 2' wide x 3-4' tall baffle - maybe with asymmetic length wings or hinges -- don't know SP12B's Qts (?) but SP15B qts measured 1.33
I have a few tweeter's around some OLD vifa from Mission 780's If I was to try a OB and use a cap to x-over at 10K is that a good idea? Also if I do a 2 x 4 foot baffle do I angle it at all? Do I have to countersink the driver? Put the driver from the back? Roundover on the whole? Baffle material MDF or 11 layer pine
ask over at Darrel Hawthorne's (Silver Iris) forum, Open Baffle forum at Audio Circle, fullrnage driver forum and diy audio - might be best to take cheap piece of wood and experiment to personal taste listening distance/height/tilt/width/wingsfor low height, GA Briggs baffle seems popular at "JE Labs"
theres a free baffle modeling program called "The Edge" - not sure how it sdeals with floor boundary.
I'm just piddling with open baffle so don't have asnwers - ~10Khz acoustic rollin sounds about right.
guess you don't have SP12B's parameters?
if you go down/back in recent posts, there's SP12B in ~14 cubic vented cabinet augmented with T35.
there were some APT80 copies at ebay for $8 each - horn could unscrew - those might do ok if you don't already have something. Fostex seem popular - even piezo could do something.

cool - guess SET without loop feedback would raise Qts suitable for OB
How about building the Karlson 12, I like the idea of smaller a 2' x4' is a little awkward (I would do it, if its better than the Karlson)...Looks like the K12 is about 24" high by 15" wide. will this driver work well in there? IF I build the Karlson Can I put a super tweeter on top? SHould I use SLot's or opening on the top panel?
might have a fun sound in K12 - if wanted, super tweeter on top but probably not needed
