Madisound has these neat looking kits for the fostex driverhttp://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=6957039.917&pid=1895
100 bucks for a horn kit seems really attractive... except im not really interested in the fostex driver.
any ideas about alternate drivers? how would this cabinet work with a jordan jx92?
are there any other rescources in the uS for relatively inexepensive flat pack kits for lowthers or the jx92 transmission line?
or is there anyone that out there i could send a plan to and they would send a custom flat pack back?
or would a local cabinetmaker possible be able to do this? anyone tried asking one?
questions questions. i know.. wouldn't ask if i didn't value the input. thanks!
Follow Ups:
Ark,I have used the Jordan JX92S in several designs and I continue to be impressed with how when it sounds. Nearly a year ago I built a MLTL which modifies Greg Monfort's original 48" design. I added a set of Aurum Cantus G2si ribbon tweeters to sweeten the top end of my units. You can build it with or without the ribbons if your budget is tight. This MLTL will play below 40 Hz with good bass and gets better as frequency increases. Others have had positive comments on theis speaker and I've supplied plans to several interested DIY'ers. This is a straight box (no tapered line) so it is easy to build and simple for a woodworker. If you are interested, please contact me.
Cabinets are designed around drivers (when it's done right). With complex cabinets like horns, TLs, etc, it's not a simple matter of dropping in drivers- you'll not know whether it's the misalignment of the driver/cabinet interface you don't like (when you have negative results) or the driver itself. What's wrong with the FF165k? I use the ff225k with stunning results....
That JX 92S will shine in a simple MLTL . Don't use it in the madisound horn kit.
They seem to be well liked and are claimed to perform well in the
BK-16, if the preponderance of reviews out on the web can be
believed. Im sure the Jordan JX92 is a fine driver, but it is
considerably less efficient than the Fostex FF165K. I'm not
sure if there are any similar Jordan-specific horn or TL kits,
it would be a nice option for the many guys who do not have a
workshop or extensive woodworking tools at their disposal. If you are dead-set on the Jordan drivers, I would research the
issue very thoroughly before buying the BK-16.Sorry I don't have more usable info for you on this.
Good luck,
thanks.for the cost i'm half tempted to get em and then stick all sorts of thing in them to see..
but for all that trouble i may as well build a medallion 11 cabinet and get lowthers!
=P
