Hello people!!
Is it possible to build an open baffle speaker with multiple drivers?
The drivers are 8", 5", & 3", all with Alnico magnets.
Can this be done with the 8" woofers on the open baffle also?
Or would I need to build a separate enclosure for them, so I would have some reasonable bass response?
Any and all suggestion would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
THANKS!!!
Steve

I've often thought that it would be fun to blend different FR drivers, as long as they are about the same efficiency. For the lower-efficiency ones maybe you could use multiple drivers. FR drivers tend to have a ragged response, but this would help smooth it because the peaks and valleys of different drivers would tend to cancel out.
I heartily recommend the entire Lampizator.eu website, starting with the page linked below, which deals specifically with multiple drivers on OB. Many will also be interested in his DIY CD player tube upgrades as well. And, there is also this system which I linked here just the other day (it is just one among many other systems that could be cited):

I personally feel it is ideal if one can go with a smallish, high-grade fullrange and thus avoid the need for a crossover up top. At the very least one should try to go with a broad range unit and get the crossover out of the range where the ear is most sensitive.
But there is nothing wrong with trying it with any drivers you have on hand!

Thanks a bunch. Mr. Briggs was really something.
I was just pondering what material to use for my open baffle. Seems a lot of folks like sand filled:)On the XT120/XT1086 horns....they are each drilled for 4 bolt and 3 bolt mounting. I don't know the bolt spread on your 2 bolt driver but chances are the 18sound web site has the info you need. If not measure your driver and ping me and I'll measure my horn.
