I just finished these speakers for my Seth amps, and boy do they ever sing! This picture doesn't show it but the cabinets are just under 14 cu. ft. with an 80 sqr inch port. The speakers are the Electro-Voice SP12-B (die cast basket) and the matching tweeter (T-35) and the original crossover. These are listed as about 94 db efficiency but I think that was a very conservative rating, as the speakers they are replacing were the same rating but they were nowhere near as loud. If you own speakers like these you know why I am excited! My gallery has a full system which shows their size better.

nice looking system -I;ve got heavy sp12 (Qt~0.3) wasting away - sp12 probably likes ~6CF box (?) - have you tired runing sp12B fullrange and just a 1.5uF cap & pad on t35?
your sp12b & t35
Is that a concave section on the dustcap? That would expalin why you can run a T-35 without a midrange driver in between. It looks like it would have some advantages over the standard wizzer-cone.
I looked again and I see it is a standard wizzer. It still looks nice!
Yes 6 cu. ft. is what the charts were showing for this speaker, but a speaker building book I had back in the mid sixties showed a much larger cabinet, which is what I fashioned mine after. These speakers came with a cross over and a pad, so for now I am just using them as is. Steve suggested an open baffle which I would like to try, and your suggestion would allow me to Bi-wire so I want to try that too. So many options so little time! Thanks for the suggestions and if I may say "Don't let that speaker waste away". You could do a mono system or even a center channel for an HT setup.
Yep, got a couple pairs of those and I think they sound super! Try them in an open baffle, you will be really pleased!
I came really close to doing that as I had heard these speakers sound spectacular that way! But the plans I had found were almost 3' wide each and I could not fit that in the space I had. As it is I am adding new definition to " Near Field" listening. These are almost like headphones! Thanks for the info, and I'd like to talk more about the OB idea.
width down.my advice would be to listen to them as is for a couple of months before changing so you can really compare.
is that the correct orientation for the t-35 ?
or is there a --correct-- orientation ?
ive got a beautiful pair in chrome. :)
actually.........if you just remove the back and plug the port (if it is on the front) you should be able to get a really good idea of how it would sound ob.
Good suggestions, I will do as is for a little while . That will give me some time to make up some open-baffles. As for the orientation of the T-35, I don't know, I looked at the disspersion pattern and found that vertically the disspersion was wider, So I went that way. It went completely against what I had always thought! Right now the the bass goes so low you can feel it, and it isn't "Boomy". It seems very tight and well defined. Thanks for the input! I'll definately post as I change things around.
I would say the T-35 orientation is correct. I had a pair of T-350s in my Patrician 800s and it was mounted just like your T-35. I have the original Patrician 800 blueprints which also confirm your mounting.I also had the EVM12L with an 1823M with 8HD horn mounted like your T-35.
Thats great info about the orientation! I got to being worried, even though it would have been a while before I switched them. Just knowning they were wrong would have eaten on me! Yes I can't agree with you more "these are great speakers". I can't imagine anyone not being happy with their performance. Thanks again!
8" on O.B. (24"w x 30"h). Never looked at any 'design' as a template. Just picked up some birch ply (oak veneer), from the remainder bin, that looked large enuff. And they were. No wings [single cloth layer draped over back (too many layers and the sound became muffled)], angle brackets for legs, tripod rear leg (furniture hinge), sand in 2 ltr water bottle ballast (poly cord/hanging from hinge). All feet spiked.
