1) Where did they get that collection of LPs covers with excessively worn spines?
2) Why are most of the LP cover spines LM (RCA LP Mono) instead of LSC (RCA Living Stereo)
3) And the most readable LP spine shown on the SACD spine is LM instead of LSC, why is this?I do not nor have I ever owned an LP with the type of worn spine and spinal damage as show on the front and back covers of the RCA Living Stereo SACDs.
If anyone knows why RCA did this please let me know. I love the inexpensive prices of the RCA Living Stereo SACDs and their excellent sound but why the worn ugly looking LPs making the SACD graphics look like amateur poor art? This has always puzzled me.

Follow Ups:
I do not know why they use the cover art, but I do have hundreds of LSC and LM and, even with a lot of care, some are a little worn.
The fact that some of the covers are worn doesn't bother me, but it is weird that many (or most) of the visible spines are LM (mono) and not LSC (stereo). I also remember seeing this photo somewhere else (in an early advertisement, I think) where ALL the spines were shown, and there were clearly non-RCA LPs in the collection. They've since been Photoshoped-out for the SACD covers. And have you noticed that many of the photos of the original LP covers (of the main work(s) on the SACD) are fuzzy reproductions of the original LS RBCD releases? Take the Munch/Ravel collection for example--the LS RBCD cover art is crisp and clear, while the same art on the SACD cover is fuzzy and indistinct.
I know, I know--there are better things to obsess about (and I don't even notice these things now), but graphic design, especially when it comes to CD/LP covers, is one of my major areas of interest.
I can't believe the cavil about this. I thought those spines are normal and to me they're not particularly worn. Covers don't reliably indicate how the LP is anyway.I usually pick the nicest ones I can and have even bought more than one thrift copy of a record I love, so that I can have a good cover.
Have you now ventured back into RCA? You swore you only were going for Telarcs ("this time around").
I haven't ventured back into RCA Living Stereo SACD, as I do prefer the Classic Records LPs with the original covers, the "shaded dog" logo, the deeper and more powerful bass, more impact on high percussion strikes and their larger soundstage. I just hate paying $30.00 for an LP that has ½ the playing time of a $10.00 SACD! Oh, well!So for now at least it's Classic Records and Speaker's Corner for RCA Living Stereo and Mercury Living Presence.

and so get more attention for their products on boards like this one.
I like the look of the worn spines and I'm sure it was purposely done.I think the point was to remind people of how old these recordings are and that there's a sense of nostalgia, romance and history to them. It also adds to the reality that the best recordings are the ones whose LP's get handled the most and result in a lot of wear and tear.
: )
they were going for an authentic looking record collection. not all people have pristine collections.

Teresa,You have lived a sheltered life when it comes to record cover spines. I have around two dozen records whose spines are shredded from cats sharpening their claws on them. (Not by my cats; these are LPs I've been given.) I've also seen similar damage in other people's homes. They are so shot that one can't even tell what the records are from the side.
that the SACD owner now has in his/her hands, a cheap "mint copy" of these classic LPs that, for the most part, for mere mortals, can only be found today in tattered and/or well used condition?
good observation I never thought of it from that angle.
