Well, I just iTunes that record, gotta love being able to hear before you buy, and I don't think that Dui's criticism is far off, definately hillbilly music, and I grew up in 'billy town, so, yes, I can make that criticism... not that that's bad, I like some billy music, but I would rather listen to 88.5 on sundays to catch that style in even better performances...maybe Jorma should have sat in with the old and in the way band...
Follow Ups:
What you are calling hilbilly music is pure American old timey music, including standards and ballads that have been staples in the diet of any music lover since Woody Guthrie's time. Read the liner notes for Blue Country Heart. Shit, with a title like that and a lineup featuring the top Nashville players of the past few decades, what's the mystery? You know what you're getting.I just don't understand this criticism of an album that really is beyond criticism, aurally and musically. Jorma's voice is a mellow vehicle for these old tunes and the musicians do them proud. The recording is excellent and the arrangements are fine.
I don't like apple pie, but I see that as my own flaw, not hillbilly culinary.

Yep, that's hillbilly music by any name, as I mentioned, that doesn't neccessarily mean it bad, much is good, but just like any music, some is bad and some is good. Going by earlier Jorma music, such as Quah, I thought I would like it, and was just getting ready to buy it till this criticism, now having iTuned it, I'll save my money. I should have know better, the last Jorma album was total crap, unlike Quah, which is one of my favorite albums. Of course, I already posted about Nickle Creek, got a surprise that time, as well as on some of the so-called jazz albums from telarc lately, gonna have to make iTunes a mandatory listen before buying now...and Jorma voice, hell, his voice has aged much better than many and sounds pretty good, unlike say, dylan, or listen to buffett, he can't even sing anymore, probably too much coke...
