Korg MR 1000. Stereo, 40Gbyte harddisk, DSD at 2.8 and 5.6 Mhz, XLR line or phantom mic inputs, 1.02 kg.Looks very nice, anybody here who can translate the test in Audio Review 276, Italy?
Follow Ups:
I have the Korg MR-1000 and have tried it (on the side)during a recent orchestra session. Recording from microphones and line sources, it was pretty amazing how good it sounded, especially at 5.6 MHz. The mic preamps were just a bit noisy, but consider the price and what you're getting!I'm definitely giving the MR-1000 a workout on some more trials. BTW, the included "Audio Gate" software is easy to use on my laptop.
Best Regards,
I have also purchased this recorder and am amazed with how good it sounds. However to be fair, I have no means of comparing it with more expensive studio workstations and would be very interested in Michael's comments in this regard. Are the on board DSD dac's of a comparable quality to say a Sonoma in 2 channel reproduction? Thanks
No, the ADC/DACs are not quite up to the EMM Labs/Sonoma combo, but at a tiny fraction of the cost, MR1000 no slouch either. I have not done a really critical side-by-side comparison yet - just switching between them during the session for some quick impressions.
Best Regards,
Amazing just how often the japanese manufactures all choose the same model numbers...
The Tascam and Korg DSD machines are completely different from each other. The Korg MR1000 is about 9 inches wide, 2.5 inches tall and weighs maybe a pound or two without the (8) AA batteries it runs on. It includes a 40 gig HD inside.
