A friend brought his 8260 over about 6 months ago and we conducted a very informal 4 hour shoot-out between these two units. The 2910 more than held its own. We both agreed that it really came down to personal preferences, but he did allow that "the Denon sounds absolutely terrific, in many ways I like it better than my 8260..." I had to agree.I have since replaced the 2910 with a 3910, which I feel to be an even better audio playback device. If I were you, I would defintely buy the 3910 over the 8260. The fact that it can also play back DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, and HDCDs is icing on the cake. I snagged my 3910 off Audiogon for $525 delivered to my door - a fantastic value, IMHO.
Go for it!

I can trade the DVD1920 I had purchased from the same dealer about a year ago. He carries this player and also the SA8260. With the add'l features as you mentioned with the 3910, it is indeed a great bargain and the better choice IMHO.

"I would imagine that he might be amenable to letting you A-B them in your home, ask him. But I think you'll come to the same conclusion that my friend and I did. The 3910 is a VERY nice unit, I plan on keeping mine for the next decade or so...
BTW, the picture quality of DVDs on the 3910 is stellar, it upscales them to HD quality, 1080i. The more I think about it, skip the A-B session and just grab the 3910. You will never regret it, I promise. And, one more thing, be sure to download the region free BIOS flash software so you can play any disc from any part of the world. I've found that DVDs that cost $30 in the States are around half that price in Australia.
-RW- Feel free to write me with questions once you get the 3910...
.
Denon DVD2910/3910 / A1XV* Remove any disc from the player
* Switch unit into STANDBY
* Hold OPEN, PLAY & PREVIOUS keys down together on the front panel
* While holding the above keys, switch the unit on, keep holding the keys until the player name disappears
* Wait until the player shows 0:00:00
* Type 73194628 on the remote control
* The player will then switch itself off
I have had it done on my Canadian R1 3910 and it is now a region free DVD player (have had success with playing R2 and R3 discs). BTW, make sure it has the latest firmware with the BTB fix for better DVD playback quality.
