My friend just got a used Sony SACD-1, but in excellent physical condition. However, with our ear close to the player we hear a small rattling and hum noise. I suspect small rattling and hum is normal due to ground loop and transformer or other thing in the power supply. Small hum is probably exceptable if due to ground loop. However, small rattling too is really surprising me especially the HI End toy such as this one. We tested this with everything in the system off except for SACD-1. I have a Classe 1.5 and do not hear a thing when power on.

I just listened to it without a disc playing and could hear a 60 Hz buzz only when I used a stethoscope on the chassis. I do not hear any rattling noises. The top-load drawer makes audible mechanical noise only when opening or closing.
I can hear the relay click when it switches formats and I can hear the laser park itself if my ear is right there, but mine has always been quiet. Now, I do have a PS Audio PP300 and when I dial that up to say 90Hz-120Hz, I can hear the PSU whine a bit.
i get a solitary click or"pop" even when the player is shut off.otherwise i am happy with the performance.Has anyone heard about the click or pop problem.it seems to come from therear of the player but there is absolutely no pattern to when it happens????

I just turned mine own in response to your post (I rarely play it anymore unless a guest just wants to hear it).It is extremely quiet. Yes, it does have a hum, but it is so faint I had never noticed it before and will not notice it again the next time I turn it on. It's that faint. It may be louder toward the back of the chassis but I have no easy access to the back. I can't hear it at all once I get 3 or 5 inches away. (It doesn't qualify for the "wife" test:)
Likewise, it runs like a well-oiled machine. No rattling at all.

I hook it up to my balanced power transformer. Not really sure why this happens.
