Hi Robert - if people who like jazz are not all over these I really don't know who will.... but that's just my opinion. Your post prompted me to listen to some of these again today. sinc I did the reviews my system has changed a lot. Now I have an APL Denon 3810, Dynaudio Contour 1.3 MkII speakers with upgraded internal silver wiring, plus I recently added Paul Speltz's speaker-cables. The sonics of these discs are great and I see no reason to change any of my ratings on sa-cd.net - au contraire. And shop around - you can get (most of) these at 13.69 each at CD Pacific for example.
Follow Ups:
I actually bought the first recording "Action" from Borders Sunday evening as I had a Rewards coupon. About the same price if I ordered it online elsewhere I suppose if a had to include a shipping cost. Also allows instance access to playing it immediately when one gets home which is nice if they choose to do so. :)Well it did not track on my Sony XA777ES whatsoever. Wouldn't even get to the table of contents. When I did a search afterwards, I noted another inmate had a problem with this on his Sony player. I powered down the player and unplugged it but still no dice when I tried it again!
My next best player which is miles behind the Xa777ES did a decent job with this recording but unfortunately not enough to make me want to buy another. The music is good enough but it is a shame I cannot get the extra icing with this piece of cake regarding sound quality. I'd be better off buying the CD box set that was released some time ago for this music.
Sorry to hear that. I had issues my my old Sony. Had the laser assembly replaced, but still issues. The Denon reads them without fault. There must be something going on with these discs - try exchanging it in case it's a one-off - you may be more lucky with another...
I plan to try a few. I have Rogue tube pre and power amps and the XA777ES SACD player. I shouldn't have a problem with these sonically hopefully. Inmate Nerferti also likes them alot. They list for $18.98 and I was not planning on paying that for 40 minutes of music regardless.BTW, I have abandoned my MCH listening (where applicable) until I get a better amp. The Denon AVR3803 just cannot cut the mustard versus me listening in two channel with the Rogue and Xa777ES. I tried a few more times with "Manhattan" and I won't be selling it (I bought it used and perhaps the seller didn't like what they heard). It isn't on the level of West of 5th for sonics IMHO but the music is good and I'm enjoying it more now.
