Why is it that I never see any reference to the Dorati/Mercury Rite of Spring? Through all modern recordings of anything--not to mention any recording of the Rite--this thing is just one of the absolute best of anything of all time. Anyone share this opinion?
I've always thought his recording on Decca with the Detroit band was excellent too. It is a big statement about 'The Rite' to declare any recording as 'the best'. I have several performances and they all have something to offer. An SACD with real impact and some interpretative flair is Gergiev on Philips.

Generally, I agree; but in this case, I'm very inclined to do so. (I own a number of recs of it and have heard many others.) The Gergiev, for example, I consider to be quite good. Even when I find one rec I consider far above others, I always enjoy listening to others. That experience rounds out my musical understanding of the piece.
I picked up my copy at a local Borders Books. It's an item they seem to keep in stock.
Yes - but I only just received it after several weeks of waiting. Haven't heard it yet. I'm in the UK.
