with apologies to Sherlock Holmes.Have you noticed the absence of the "SACD is dead" threads and comments?
It appears that, on small labels for classical and jazz music, SACDs continue to be released at a steady pace.
It also appears that large volume manufacturers (like Marantz/Phillips) and small volume manufacturers (like Wadia) are continuing to build SACD players at various price points.
Who knows maybe the big boys in the music industry will wake up one day and figure out that they, too, can sell SACDs, especially if the high-volume pop market for CDs continues to shrink.
Follow Ups:
when many on this forum declared that almost all releases will be Hybrid SACDs. Few here could understand that to increase the cost of discs for a tiny miniscule increase in sales wasn't worth it to the labels. What a huge contrast between then and now.SACD (or any other high resolution audio format) will never be mainstream. People just don't care, and are willing to sacrifice quality (if they even notice the drop in quality) and go with MP3.
Beating DVD-A isn't exactly a big deal either.
The same thing is happening now with Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD. The winner of that format war will win a niche market. This niche will be larger then Hi-Rez audio, but will still be a small drop in the bucket.
Yes, I looked at your user info. You are a liar and deserve no respect or consideration on this board. Much like ZS KEKL on DVD-Audiobahn, you post only to gratify your retarded little fantasy. Don't go away angry... just go away.
Prad,
What a great post. Please do it again. There was this other person, who used to post like this....and would not understand sarcasm. Serioulsy dude, this is fun. You are more than welcome at this forum. Don't be intimidated by all the other "opposing/insulting" posts. Just ignore them and keep posting. It was so refreshing just reading this entire thread.
And to make you feel welcome here - people are really not insulting you. They are just trying to educate you about SACD. Why do you feel insulted by knowledge? BTW, what equipment do your play SACD on?
Prad, you are absolutely right on the audiophile bigotyr. Here is the definition of bigotry:"A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own."
Just see what this hobby has done to your posts. We really need to find a solution for you here. But one question to you....why are you not able to differentiate between good equipment and no-so-good equipment? I mean I don't have ultra-expensive equipment...but I can easily differentiate when music is being played through a good and not-so-good systems. You should probably start with an ENT specialist to check your E. Let me know how the tests go. We will take up from there and see how we can elevate your audio experience.
I don't think that anyone in this forum thinks of himself/herself highly because he/she owns certain equipment. All we are trying to say is that the "SACD is dead" cry on this forum has died out. It just happens that everyone in this particular forum cares about SACD and appreciates it's quality. So tell me, do you like SACD playback? What are your favourite SACDs? I like this format very much.
has caused you irreparable brain damage... it's just sad :-(
Ouch.
Regards,
Geoff
Here we have the typical prad/jeme conversation, that we've seen so many times. Except that I don't think it's prad and jeme talking, it's one person talking to itself in public.jeme says he lives in Singapore, and prad claims to live in the US, but they both use the same Asia-Pacific ISP, and both pull from the same block of addresses. Not only that, a quick analysis using the data provided by the forum's IP Search function shows that over the last couple of years they both have used the SAME IP ADDRESSES at various times. If prad is really who/where he claims he is, how is this possible? Answer: it's not.
maybe they use some sort of proxy server or something...but they've both been around long enough to establish quite different styles. They seem like two separate people. But in the end, it doesn't matter, they should both be banned because, annoying quirks aside, they never have anything worthwhile to say.
Dave555 and navman were both around for a long time, and established very different styles. They were both the same person.
and before I start, I always thought Jerome was in/near Hong Kong and Prad from Singapore.Back last week when Jazz was indirectly shilling his used copy of Blues In Orbit, after buying a sealed one in mid-October, I tracked a couple on Ebay. On a used one from Sweden, I noticed the current bidder's handle as being Pradster16. I clicked on the feedback and saw that the person was from Singapore and fond of buying Helmut Lang vintage jeans, whatever they are.
I can't say if it's 'our' Prad, or not, but it was as interesting as finding out what JI was doing.
Maybe we can take a 'tribal council' vote and send them off the island, down the road?
This what each has in their profiles:
jeromelang - Music Lover/Audiophile
Singapore
prad - Music Lover/Audiophile
prad land, United StatesYet all of their posts originate from the same Asia/Pacific-based ISP.
I'm not generally in favor of banning posters, but prad has proven that his/her/it's only goal here is the same as jeme's - to be disruptive. Regardless of whether they are the same person or different people, they both need to find another sandbox to play in.
a more detailed search show Jeme posting to Prad from Manila, 1:20 prior to Prad replying from a Singapore based ISP.
Hi,
What happened to Prad's posts? I did not understand him in the first place...he claims to have 100s of SACDs and does not support SACD. He reminded me of another member named AAA who used to post on similar lines...but with fluent English.
I generally drive these nuts to fraustration. Sometimes they get tamed..and sometimes theu just stop replying :-)
Your first statement is flawed, but one must think past the obvious in order to understand why.The boutique labels which support SACD are not the least bit interested in mass markets. They neither select their releases to appeal to the masses, nor do they gauge their production volume on a massive scale. The boutique labels have realized what the suits at Sony and Universal never could: that SACD appeals to a more sophisticated audience (probably one that can at least spell words completely and write legibly) which is not the least bit interested in the latest pop tunes. They understand that there is little to be gained sonically from releasing recordings that are compromised from the start, and that most audiophiles can live without Jenifer Lopez, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Toby Keith (WHAT were they thinking?), et al in their collections. So they have learned to target their audience, and some of them have become quite successful at it. While there is a certain volume of business necessary to justify the production of new titles, the companies that are still producing SACD's have learned what level of cost they can bear in order to generate a profit. They now target selected recordings of special merit to convert to SACD, and they know from the outset that there will be few, if any, million sellers among them. But they can still be successful, perhaps even more than the giant labels that choose releases poorly. If you look at CD Universe, you will note that almost every new SACD release from Living Stereo hits the best seller list within days of its release, sometimes even before its release. That counts as great success, and I suspect they'll keep doing it as long as they can revive existing recordings that can be converted to SACD for a minimal cost. The smaller labels will continue to make new recordings with lesser known, less expensive artists, and produce a limited number of discs that will generate a profit. They don't need or want the support of the big labels, other than as a source of existing quality recordings.
I think players are still adavncing in quality. I don't think they're "sad" at all. My stock Marantz SA-11S1 is far superior to my first Sony player, even with its elaborate and expensive mods. I just hope someone can finally develop a player whose transport will last more than a couple years. That aspect of SACD players is rather pitiful.
Your facts are not facts at all. The people who expounded the death of SACD are banned or not heard from any more because they've finally blown themselves out, and they've finally grown tired of trying to provoke us for no good reason other than to be contrary.
If I had wanted to insult or mock u, it would have been quite easy and obviously presented. Quit being so paranoid. If you disagree with my opinions, that's fine. Do not accuse me of attacking you personally without just cause. There are no such expressions in my post. What is well known here is that you can write perfectly well when you choose to do so, but you believe that your phoeneticizing of common and short English words is somehow clever and unique, when, in fact, it only serves to lower the value of your ill-informed pronouncements and opinions. The impediment with which you are most seriously afflicted is that of not thinking clearly.
What the sales rankings of CD Universe or even Amazon tell us is that the morons who buy their music at Walmart, Target, etc. and are included in Billboard charts, probably do not track with what the educated public is buying on-line. What this tells us, dear prad, is that there is a strong market for selected titles. Not necessarily a large market, but a strong one. Can you understand the distinction?
I hang around with audiophiles very little of the time, if at all. Don't be presumptive about my habits or activities. I read the postings here with a huge amount of skepticism, but I do not criticize people for their obsessive pursuit of perfection.
Don't insult my buying decisions. You have absolutely no clue as to why I bought my newest SACD player, so shut up. I am not gullible when it comes to purchasing audio equipment, or anything else, for that matter. I doubt that most audiophiles or informed buyers drop a serious chunk of cash on something just because it's new. At one point, the only amp, pre-amp, and speakers I owned were all 20 years old. I simply hadn't heard anything that sounded a lot better. I bought one of the first 50 pairs of B&W (Ah! DM-6's!) speakers to ever be imported into the US. In 1975! I sold them for half of what I paid for them, 20 years later. I get to hear them every so often, and they still sound great. I didn't buy them simply because they were new, but because they were the best speakers I had heard that I could afford ($1400 the pair in 1975). Obviously, I made the right decision.
SACD is already a mature technology, and the only opportunity for further R&D lies with circuit refinement and transport improvement. I sure wish the industry powers would invest a little more in the latter, as the reliability of transports is shameful.
I don't agree with banning posters unless the only purpose of their postings is to arouse the ire of serious contributors. If they refuse to back off, if they ignore repeated warnings from the moderator, then they should get kicked out. The purpose of this forum is not picking fights and hurling insults, but to share information, insights, and opinions. I think your string of postings here does little to contribute to readers' base of knowledge. Perhaps you should examine your motives for posting. Or perhaps you should examine even more closely the responses you get. Most seem to be quite defensive, some bordering on meanness. Are you getting the feeling that your opinions and pronouncements are really not wanted or needed here; that no one really cares to read, with no small difficulty, what you think?
No one here, and I mean NO ONE, believes you have any type of impediment whatsoever, other than an obstinate desire to aggravate people instead of communicate with them. There is no silent majority, so I wouldn't look to them for support. Please give us the formal term by which your "spelling impediment" is known to the medical community.
Obviously, you do not understand the concept of "niche market".
I don't expect you to care about why I buy speakers. In fact, I don't expect that you could care at all about what anyone here has to say except as it relates to or can further feed your anger. I included those details as information for anyone who might be interested in my background as an experienced member of the audiophile community. It's quite clear that you have no interest in anyone else's experiences or what they've learned from them.
By the way, your paranoia and faulty reasoning are the primary reasons people respond so angrily to your insulting, infantile postings. We are not bigots, and to extrapolate the persecution of minorities or disabled persons from our criticism of your stubborn refusal to write like a grown-up, is an insult to all of us and to the real victims of such bigotry. The fact that we don't enjoy your illiterate, artificial (yet carefully constructed) syntax and grammar means nothing in a larger context.
Comparing the informed community represented here to pigs only demonstrates the mean-spirited nature of your thoughts. I think you enjoy the confrontational nature of these postings, and I refuse to be drawn in any further. I enjoy reading and responding to logical, informative entries, and yours don't qualify as either.
I know the formal name of your impediment:histrionic personality disorder
"A person with histrionic personality disorder constantly seeks attention and behaves dramatically. Emotions often seem exaggerated, childish, and false. This is done to get sympathy or attention from others."
Regards,
Geoff
Suggesting that you have a disease that makes you type in text-style is just horseshit... and not really funny at all. There are real people out there with real diseases. Go somewhere else with this crap.
It's known as "acting like a dipshit-itis"... and you have an acute case. See a specialist.
Why you have trouble with simple words and can spell difficult words I cannot understand.I cannot spell difficult words and must use spell check. I consider my poor spelling a disability with is treated by the use of spell check.
Also what is up with your mish-mash of numbers and letters in your other puzzle posts, I can't understand that at all? I am not good at puzzles and it is very unfair to make your reader have to untangle your words to try to make them into understandable sentences. You posts are a total lost cause as far as reading more than 50% of any one sentence. Please do not be so mean to your readers.

with your brain damage.Your thinking impairment appears to be considerably worse than your spelling impairment. You should probably give up the writing.
H8 2 b n asshole but u r off10 4getting 2 com u ni k8 n 10shun is no f1. Y b r8 a friend? U 10d 2 b 2 10s.
Every time you start to write "wif", write "with" instead. This will always be the right word.
Of course, your microscopic diseased brain cannot understand what I just wrote so you will not be able to do that. But at least I tried to help you.
How can "wif" possible be short for "with"? "With" has no "f" in it and the two words sound nothing whatsoever alike?I also figured out that "n" means "and" and not "in". I would assume than "n" was short for "in" as they sound the same and once again “and” and "n" sound nothing whatsoever like each other.
This is a very strange language that Prad has invented. Are you able to decode some of his other non-words?
He says he is black and gay. He says he never went to school and of course never had a job. He also was born with severe brain damage. Because of all these reasons, people tried to lynch him on Martin Luther King Day. Now he thinks he is Copernicus.
Prad is writing in "text message". Since you have to push each number on a cell phone multiple times to get the right letters to communicate with one other by text messaging, the kids have developed a "shorthand" of sorts to get their message across with fewer keystrokes. Prad is using that shorthand. Obviously, you are not the only one that finds it annoying. The scientist in me finds this whole thread fascinating. Racerguy is obviously right. Prad started doing this out of laziness, as he used to write intelligent posts in complete sentences. Now he has made up this spelling impediment crap solely to get attention. But here's the facinating part:
I understand a ZS KEKL. He likes to throw stones at people and see what happens. Although I'm certainly not a fan of his posting style, I actually find him to be pretty funny and I am always amazed that people take him seriously. I like being a pom-pom shaking SACD cheerleader. And I have to admit, many of us have made a "ZS KEKL type" post at one time or another.
But Prad is pretending to be dumb and stupid in order to get attention on a forum where people are respected for erudite, well-reasoned posts. The attention is all negative and it's hard for me to believe that someone is so attention-starved that he would want to be called dumb and stupid. But that appears to be the case.
I never had kids because I believed I would be a bad mother, as I could never tell my kids not to do drugs or not to have sex. In fact the teenage years are the best times to experience these things and I would not want to deprive them of the fantastic childhood I had. I played in a band, did drugs and drank all the time, skipped school, went to wild parties and had lots of sexual fun too. Plus because I had a photographic memory I made straight “A’s in school too. It was like living a double life and they were the best years of my life. I could never deprive my kids the same. So if I had kids I would likely be in prison for corrupting my children! Also I think it is so unfair that drugs are so expensive nowadays, When I was a teenager all I had to do was skip lunch to afford drugs. It’s that damned drug war it has made drugs unaffordable! And those that get hooked have to commit crimes to afford drugs! Totally unfair! Also the AIDS epidemic has made casual sex unsafe, which is also totally unfair. We need to lower drug prices and cure AIDS so teenagers can have fun again. I hate to think my generation was the last generation to experience the ecstasy of our teenage years!
Teresa, you have just surprised the hell out of me.Now that I think I know you a little better, I'm going to enjoy your posts a lot more. I always thought of you as pretty straight.
Excellent - thanks for opening up like that. This, for me, is the best post to come out of this train wreck of a thread. No - I don't understand prad either, but I'm going to back off try to and ignore him.

Geoff
I think there have been some. The small runs from SFS of some of the Mahler Symphonies have sold out.If you consider the heavy hitters like "Dark Side of the Moon" and some of The Stones, they have had more than one pressing.
Regards,
Geoff
Yes they can. If memory serves, that's exactly what happened to the SFS Mahler, although the second pressing occurred quite quickly. These are 10,000 runs.On the other hand, a small label like Audio Fidelity only had the rights to the music they obtained for 3 years. That time is up now, so even if there was a sudden demand for the Steve Hoffman mastered "Zombies" (great album), Audio Fidelity cannot make any more.
Many of the abkco RS titles are on the shelves?
You may find some of the less popular titles, but look for "Beggars Banquet" and "Let it Bleed". See any?
I don't KNOW if there was a second pressing - all I am saying is there could have been for those bigger selling titles.
Regards,
Geoff
That's a good one, especially considering spell checkers are ubiquitous nowadays.
I find it difficult and ultimately irritating to read your posts due to the writing style. I have a feeling you are capable of making your contributions more readable. It would be worth it if you are interested in having people read your posts and take them seriously.
When this buffoon defends his insistance on using an infantile, pseudo-hip, text-messaging writing style by equating complainers with religious and racial persecutors, even the rhino-skinned like me are offended. Please make this bandwidth-wasting, thread-crapping punk go away permanently.
You can spell impediment correctly but you cannot spell "what", "with" or "are"? How come you did not have this impediment when you posted a few years ago in complete, correctly spelled sentences?Although I disagree with you and it is clear that you are not involved in any business related profession, if you want any of your opinions to be taken seriously you will have to drop the spelling impediment line and post using good English as you did earlier.
Check the URL below to confirm that, yes, you can actually spell big word correctly

...I don't believe you have a spelling impediment. I believe you started using pseudo text messaging out of laziness, and when people asked you to stop you instead escalated in order to annoy people and get attention. That is pretty much all you have ever done here, and the ridiculous posting "style" is just another manifestation. If, however, you really are tryinig to add some valued insight to this forum, and you really do have a spelling impediment, and it is intermittent as you claim, then you should only post when your impediment is in remission. That way you can be sure that your posts will be read and replied to based on their content, rather than on your posting style.
What I'm telling you, prad, is that I know you are nothing more than an attention whore, and that your constant attempts at inflammatory comebacks are perfect evidence of this.
Wat r u, 13 yrs old. I've never understood the fun that trolls find in causing trouble. So far, you claim to be black, gay, unemployed and brain damaged. Somehow I believe the last two.
.
Consider a couple of points.1) No one believes that you have a spelling impediment and no one believes that you are incapable of using spell-check - NO ONE!!
2) No one will take any of your opinions seriously if you contine to post in "pre-teen text-message"
You can either put the extra effort into spelling words correctly or you can have people laugh at you - Your choice!
My eyes hurt trying to read your weird non-words! And why can you spell big words correctly and not little ones? You are playing us for a fool.

She read an article in a women's magazine that advocated substitutions like 4="for", 2="to/too", r="are", n="and" etc. as "good netiquette" and "hip/cool"Since she hates typing, she started using those substitutions in her emails. Used to make me cringe whenever I read her emails.
Anyway, we managed to wean her out of the nasty habit and convinced her there was no necessity to conserve email bandwidth :-)
Will prad ever grow out of this phase? I don't know, and until he/she does I won't bother replying.

Check the Macquarie Dictionary if you have access.I believe "spelt" is also correct for UK English, or at least that's what Oxford Dictionary says.
And all this time I thought it was "American redneck" English.
I actually prefer the American spelling for some words. And our Chemistry prof made a convincing case for "aluminium" (Aust/British spelling_ to be spelled "aluminum" (American spelling).
And then there's sodium vs natrium. Personally I prefer natrium
You are so mean! The least you can do is make your posts halfway readable and not a puzzle we must try to solve, most of the time unsuccessfully. Plus you spell "big" words correctly but cannot spell and, for, or most small words.I believe your English is better than mine is because you CAN spell big words without spell check or a dictionary. You are a phony who is making fun of us!
And why do you hate capitalization at the beginning of sentences and the word “I”?
"Music is love"

for being a jerk.I agree and think that Prad actually has some valid points that get lost with his pretentiousness, stubborn desire to be cute and trendy.
If it's not love, then it's the bomb that'll bring us together
" . banning some1 becos u dont like their posts is the epitome of intolerance n bigotry."Where did you get that? Certainly not from any of my posts. I was talking about banning you for being a troll and writing in that style that is irritating EVERYONE HERE. You should be banned for writing that way. And please, - do not LIE and try to pass off you being a troll as a legitimate impediment.
I will NOT stoop to responding to any ARGUMENT that you may choose to place against the above truth; it is important for me not to stoop to your level of childishness.

Why waste the time, or the bandwidth?
Y u look? n/t!
Yo under look?
Why berate a friend.. Writing in his native tongue, or at least attempting. Kinda challenging but I just couldn't resist.
Y b r8 a friend? (=) Why berate a friend? How is that possible?First off "Y" and "Why" sound nothing alike though I agree they rhyme but one could NEVER be mistaken for the other!
“b r8” how can bee are eight (=) berate? This one makes even less sense! Even if I say it super fast I cannot make b r8 to sound anything like berate!
I do no understand this crazy language!
"Music is love"
Teresa
Y= why, at least in my West Coast American accent
B= be, or bee as you had.
Eight= ate
R + ate = rate
Y(why) B(be)+ R + 8(ate) = berate
English really is a crazy language. I used to live in Asia and their frustrations with English are easy to understand for me now.
"Yellow" and "Hello" sounds more alike than "Why" and "Y". Plus "Yellow" and "Hello" even rhyme better!Wouldn't it me much easier to actually speak and type in English rather than changing to a code language that only you and a few others can understand?
This looks more like math than English does and I was never a fan of math!
"Music is love"
Teresa
but for most of us, they sound EXACTLY alike.
Go to the bathroom mirror and pronounce both "Why" and "Y" and you will see the even look totally different. "Y" cannot be used for "Why"!Why (hwī). Are you pronouncing "Why" correctly? If it sounds like "Y" you are not!
Start to form an "h" with your mouth and pronounce "wi" and you have to word why.
"Music is love"
Teresa
hwi and wi (both with a hard "i") are acceptable pronounciations. But thanks for the English lesson. I didn't know about the hwi version.
All I know is "u" is the 21st letter in the alphabet. And since I am not an astronaut I have to wait on earth, I have no other place to wait!I don't understand how anyone can "expect in demand" or why an "English wife is like a Jamaican"
What are becos? Bacon bits maybe? And what does bling bling mean? I cannot form your non-words into readable sentences. I guess you are smarter than I am? Why not have pity for me and type in English?

I use my dictionary when spell checker comes up with "no suggestions" or "suggestions" totally unrelated to the word that I am trying to spell. Often I have to look-up a ton of words and I try to phonetically pronounce the word. I try different letters that have a similar sound, especially different vowels, and it really gets hard if I am pronouncing the word incorrectly but I stay at it until I find the correct spelling.I had to use the dictionary when spell checking this post to find the correct spelling of “vouels”, it is “vowels” and I must say it is a stupid looking word and there is NO “w” sound in it at all. The dictionary lists the pronunciation as (vou’els), EXACTLY the way I spelled it, but the spelling is vowels ! I must say English is a very strange language. Spell check corrected about 25 words in this post.
There is no reason to be handicapped by poor spelling or grammar. Now if it could just tell me when I select the incorrect word! Such as my infamous post in which I used the word "revile" instead of "reveal".
Lots of good luck on you way to making post other people can actually understand.
I personally have a reading impediment in which I cannot comprehend posts in all small or all capitol letters. I have to look at the letter "i" about 4 or 5 times before I recognize it as "I" . So by not correcting your posts first you make it very unfair and hard for people like me.

The spelling of "vowel" is not so strange - think of trowel and dowel; and fowl, and foul - whoops, you are right. English is tough. ;-)(PS. Your "capitol" is a building in the "capital" of this country. The word "capitol" is ALWAYS a building.)

For example, Google Spell Check (a free addition to your Google Toolbar) flags "wats" - and offers as suggestions: watts, waits and warts. isntIt allows your strange use of "pt, 2, 4, u, n 2day", so it can't fix all your odd quirks. But it will surely help.
Please, please, please NEVER ever do this again. You are really hurting my head! It is so unkind when you do this! You are a faker too. As I ran spell check on you and you spelled "differentiate" correctly! I can't spell differentiate so how is it you can? Also "i" and "I" is not the same thing either "I" means myself. "i" looks like it got lost out of the middle of another word. This is one of the worst thing you do, is not capitalize the beginning of sentences and the word I ! Please quit doing this!
"Music is love"
Teresa
Here is what I have learned.1) You can spell better than I because you do not need spell check for large words, and are using made up "unreadable" shortcuts for small words because you are lazy and do not care about other people.
2) I know you know how to push the shift key to make I a capital letter and how to capitalize the beginning of sentences but again you are too lazy.
3) You have been found out and you are a complete fraud.
And the fact that you want to stay a fraud until "all the blind people quit being blind n c” What does n c mean "nice change”? I really don't understand what those two letters are doing at end of this sentence.
You have no feelings for those of us that cannot understand your silly little shortcut words, please use the real whole words. We know you know them.
We now all know you can spell the longest hardest words, so it follows that you can spell the short ones as well.So end this nonsense, and start posting in English!

You have NO spelling impediment. I have a spelling impediment NOT you as I have to run spell check on every single post and cannot correctly spell difficult words. You can you have never misspelled a large or difficult word, not even once.It is unfair that you try to speak your made-up “Pradiese” language and pretend to have a spelling impediment as it belittles those of us who actually do have trouble with both spelling and grammar and have to rely on our computers to fix to writing.
You can write perfectly without the gibberish. Also I noticed you think that “n” should mean “and” THERE IS WAY, it is not even close “n” could possible mean “in” but why not just type “in”. Other numbers and letters of yours I have no idea what they are supposed to mean.
I think it is very cruel and mean to make your posts into puzzles we must try to decipher.
I ran spell check on this post and I got 7 words misspelled!
I agree & hope the boutique labels supporting SACD keep on doing just that. I'm very happy with the quality and rate of SACD releases.
It doesn’t show up in the “statistics”, but I, as most SACD supporters, have *purchased* our discs at fair value. We have not downloaded them, pirated copies, or otherwise injured the artists or the labels. This may immeasurably help the SACD format industry supporters.

I was going to attempt to provide you with a defintive response. But I honestly don't know what *you* are talking about.

Please quit now!"this is spelling impediment. even illiterate people can get it rite. so y cant i?"
So let me correct your post:
This is spelling impediment. Even illiterate people can get it rite (?). so y (?) can’t i (why a small letter instead of a capital one)?
What does “rite” mean? A rite is a formal often-religious ceremony. What does that have to do with illiterate people? I don’t understand!!!!!!!!!!!!
What does “y” mean young, yellow, youth, you have to give me more than one letter if you want me to guess. This is not enough to work with!
And why the small “i” instead of a real “I”, it looks like it’s sick or wounded.
You are still making fun of us and it must quit. We know you can spell big words, so it follows that you can spell small words as well as small words are easier to spell.
I ran spell check and I misspelled, illiterate, religious and misspelled. If you can spell those you can spell the small words as well.

DVD-A and SACD have different forums. Neither shows posts of the other format being dead for the most part any longer.
To your first point, sacd surviving as niche format, I will think you have it totally wrong, the internet has completely changed the face of retailing for niche market products, in that allows for niches products to aggregate demand. i.e. the distribution process is streamlined.

"wat r the sales figures 2 justify the pt? there isnt!
the fact is internet is a fringe market."This has to be the most ridiculous comment I have read in a while, the internet was a fringe market in 1997, but not in 2007.

While the rest of the world gets SACD of Bjork, Genesis, Moody Blues, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, etc., we can't even get high-res versions of these releases. Many of us have to "import" SACDs from aboard, making the situation seems quite bad. For the rest of the world, I would imagine the condition of SACD is better than in the US.
if you follow the below link to sa-cd.net, you'd see that SACD releases have been quite steady in the last 2+ years. SACD is hardly dead by any means.
I've vowed not to buy another SACD until new recordings of Schubert's 9th Symphony and Dvorak's 7th Symphony are released. Don't try to tell me that there's a successful niche market for SACD in classical music when even these warhorses aren't represented on the format after 6+ years.Sorry to say this since I have been an SACD supporter since 2001 and have over 350 titles, but the absence of "SACD is Dead" trolls may simply be the result of that statement losing all of its controversial nature. Most people have moved on. I'm getting ready myself.
Well, there's this one, Dvorak 7th:
http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/2710And this one, Schubert 9th:
http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/1674
The Kubelik Dvorak 7th does not qualify as a *new* recording which is what I think Dalton was talking about. The Exton Schubert 9th does qualify, although if you are in the United States it is difficult and expensive to acquire. However, you are correct.
It's interesting that you mentioned those two compositions. The last symphony I heard live was Schubert's 9th (two weeks ago). About a year ago I looked for it in the SACD catalog and like you could find no new recordings of it (although Schubert's 9th was among the very first batch of SACDs that I bought in 1999/2000-Szell/Cleveland, as was the Szell Dvorak 7th).BUT frustated I then (about a year ago) looked to the CD catalog for a recent recording and came up zilch there too! Of course, I'm sure that there are new Schubert's 9th out there, but I remember at the time I could find anything. Likewise, I don't believe that the CD catalog is flush with new/recent Dvorak's 7th recordings.
I, too, wish for more Schubert's 9th and Dvorak's 7th Symphonys. But these symphonys, as wonderful as they are, do not have the demand of, say, Mahler and are probably *former* war horses. And with respect to war horses, the SACD releases of new works may mirror what you see among new CD releases (on a much smaller scale, of course).
But maybe all is not lost. For several years I wished for a new release of Brahms' Piano Concerto #2 (that I enjoy more than #1). Then recently, presto, at least two hit the SACD catalog.
I don't really see any reason to move on or lose interest in that at this point in time because new recordings of the 9th and 7th aren't released. With regards to the 9th, I'm looking to pick up the RCA LS recording and also the Nott, the latter which has me quite curious as a matter of fact. The other types of music like jazz and rock I pretty much haven't bought anything for quite some time but do continue to look for "bargins" on some recordings that interest me that I hadn't pulled the trigger on in the past.
I didn't consider buying a player until a number of years after the SACD launch. I was shocked to discover that some of Beethoven's most popular symphonies still hadn't been released in the format. At that point I knew that SACD releases would never amount to more than a trickle, and the selection of recordings will always be extremely limited. At this time well less than 5000 titles have ever been released (and how many have already gone out of print). That's a very low number.SACD was introduced when the world already started to move away from buying music on discs. It's like introducing a new high end CRT display monitor when the world started to move towards flat panels. Sure, there's a place for it but there is no chance to get very far against a tide of consumer and market forces.
For at least five years, I have refused to pay retail for any CD or SACD. I either buy from one of our SF massive media stores, or from the Internet, - often used, or new ones that are on sale......But in markets where Tower and Borders are the only choices, now Borders is the only choice, - is that going to impact the Recording Industry's bottom line? What will happen with their monopoly? They will be able to raise prices on items already recorded. Will they do smaller duplication runs at one of the 3 major manufacturing centers? And if a record company is bankrolling a new band or a new recording, will they be more or less likely to do a hi-rez recording? Is pricing of the upcoming Genesis SACDs as posited below a precursor of things to come?
I know that I'm going to continue to pay $8-$10 for a redbook CD and I'll continue to pay $10 to $12 for hirez CDs or I will not buy them. I would take any bet that says that if the Recording Industry Monopoly starts charging $26 for that new Nora Jones (sic), or that new Justin Timberlake CD; those products will not be long for this world.....
If it's not love, then it's the bomb that'll bring us together
their prices (overall) were too high, perhaps one of the reasons for the demise of tower. one had to be a hawkeye and in the store a lot to be aware of bargains.

...the thoughts I had about a day back, but did not want to put up in this forum. The "SACD is dead" was so strong about 2 years back and I have replied to so many threads.
This format actually pulled me into classical. LP is not my cup of tea/coffee...whatever. But the Mercury Living Presence and Mercury Living Stereo series, besides other classical labels like Pentatone, Telarc, Chesky, WaterLily, Chandos, are doing excellent job for SACD market.
to come - and that's just fine with me. Maybe it will even help keep the quality control from suffering the bad recordings many rock, pop CD's have endured. I believe many if not most audiophiles will continue listening to either LP, or SACD's or both.
Len
Correct, SACD will sell like LP's they will both be a niche market, but then our hobby is a niche market to begin with. 90% of people music is background noise, like leaving the TV on while you work around the house.I know very few people who are really into listening to music like we do in the high-end market. They have kids to raise and spending even a couple of thousand on a audio only system is nuts to them, where we will blow $2,000 on a power cord.
Now a family room large screen, surround system to watch there movies with the family that what they will spend there money on,it becomes a family purchase not a personal purchase, audiophiles are a speical group to themselves, my wife still thinks I am nuts....smile!
The sad part is has we get older, they no one to replace us, gamers, PC geeks, and cell phones are the hip things for a younger group, this is what they been exposed to and this is where they will continue to be speding there money, it won't be high-end audio or sitting listening to music, they just don't get it, MP3 sounds great to them and on there quality of systems they are right.
I play burned copies of cd's I make for my brother on my dvd player that plays out of my TV with a sub and it sounds good, play the same disc on my audio system and it sounds like a poor copy, so there you go, on one medium I be happy on the other I would not be.
95% listen to the other medium, not my high-end system.
