Betamax...need I say more!! Great R&D but they sure know how to kill a great product. It certainly seems(to me) Sony, now, has two levels of consumer electronic products it offers, and I do believe this strategy has hurt them, as the lower end stuff is not built to last and most people have figured this out.
Sony products use to last for 10 yrs if not more, but not lately(have you seen any?)!!

HowdyEvery Sony audio product I have is running great. Some are a decade old (some of my CD jukeboxes.) As far as SACD I don't use my DVP-S9000ES and SCD-C555ES as much as I used to but they still work fine and my SACD jukeboxes are working great.
1997 to 2007, the last 10 yrs; need I say more?http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=SNE&sid=0&o_symb=SNE&freq=2&time=13
HowdyI don't understand your logic. I have Sony audio products working fine of many ages up to a decade. You claim that since I have things older than a decade that younger things will fail?
Hi Ted,My point is Sony use to make products that lasted, now a days it's the exception if they do.
Nothing shows this better than investor sentiment. I wish it were not true though as I own a bunch of their stuff myslef too.
HowdyI'm just saying that that's not my experience. In fact if anything it's the converse: My worst experience with Sony was decades ago with their early portable CD players. They tried to fix it multiple times, finally the local dealer got me a Technics below cost to help make up for my problems and it works to this day (tho the lead acid battery is long dead.)
