So, it's doomsday. My gosh!!!BTW, I forgot to mention it was a factory Refurb model ("Renewed by Philips") that Stan Warren then modded. So does that mean I should be safe? If not, does Alex Peychev still repair them? If so, then I guess I should make friends with him. :)

I found this "fix" at http://www.aplhifi.com/SACD1000fix.html. This is from Alex's old site.Am I correct in assuming that step 1 - "Replace or bypass the original 0.1uF capacitor near the Flash ROM with 0.22 - 0.47uF high quality capacitor" is preventative maintenance that protects the FURORE and MACE chips from going bad?
...if it was just a cap that was causing the problems across such a huge number of players, then it would not be an issue at all, Philips would not be giving out refunds - and Alex and lots of other techs would be promoting and providing a rapid and not too expensive fix-it service.
Well, it looks like I will take my chances and with using the forms of preventative maintenance suggested by Alex Paychev, I hope I can enjoy every drop of audio juice this unit can throw out of my speakers. If I get three years or so, I will be a happy man! By then, there will be some other audio technology available. And when the SACD 1000 dies, I will strip her of any usable parts and put her out on the sidewalk to go to a great big landfill somewhere and sealed for an eternity.
