I must admit, I wasn't expecting this player to sound any good - it decimates SACD to 88.2/24 and features mediocre quality DACs that are barely better than 16-bit accuracy. But I must admit, SA-CDs surprisingly quite decent on this player. Resampling artefacts seem to be minimal, so the conversion to PCM is fairly benign.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to support SACD Text and navigating between 2ch and 5.1 tracks is very difficult.
But at the price it's an absolute killer! Just goes to show you don't need to spend a lot of money these days to get a very listenable sound.

Has anyone any info on DV=981HD primarily for SACD stereo and MC playback? The pauses have been eliminated on this player. It has a list price of $229.00.
Any info would be appreciated.
their best player for audio is the 970, not the 981, due to less susceptibility to EMI. The 970 is also their cheapest player at US$149.There's a beta firmware out for the 970 which eliminates pauses between SA-CD (and DVD-Audio) tracks. I haven't installed it yet.
"There's a beta firmware out for the 970 which eliminates pauses between SA-CD (and DVD-Audio) tracks."I called Oppo regarding the 970, yes there is a beta firmware to eliminate the pauses, I asked them when this will be incorporated in the player, their guess was in about two months, I will wait for theom to fix the issue before I order one.
