I have read that Accuphase has developed its own SACD transport now.
Follow Ups:
When I first saw the pics of the new DP-500 one box player..the transport looked to me like an S series Denon..Upon a closer look, yes, it seems like an Esoteric transport. The story I read about Accuphase been a long time developing their own transport suddenly seemed like a marketing ploy..lolAnyway, a VRDS transport is certainly welcome and is defintely more robust than a Sony's..
Congrats on your new Acuphase gear, it certainly looks very sexy and must sound sexy too..!I'm very happy with my recently acquired DP-57..I think it will stay here for a very long time too..:)
Merry Christmas !

Here is a section from the DP-500 datasheet:"As the latest entry in this category, the DP-500 features a CD drive mechanism for the first time developed in house, of course with our famousdedication to quality and attention to detail. Combine this with the latest digital signal processing technology, and the result is a breathtaking CD player that will make you rediscover the joys of music.
The CD mechanism in the DP-500 was developed with a simple yet demanding aim: extract the information encoded on the CD one-hundred percent. Using all of its accumulated know-how and expertise, Accuphase has created an extremely rigid and ultra precise transport mechanism that attains new levels of performance."
is that it reveals the musical truth.
Hi Ole,But, why would they use an OEM for one model and a proprietry one for the another (an Esoteric for the DP-800 and a proprietry for the DP-500)..?
Both mechanisms look similar with obvious slight differences, that's why I'm assuming the one in the DP-500 is a less sophisticated Esoteric transport or something else altogether. They might have been both tailor made to Accuphase's own specs for sure, but this doesn't mean it's their own design or made in-house.
Add to that the fact that Accuphase have been always out-sourcing the transports used in their gear (from Sony and maybe very earlier on from Philips).
It's more feasible to continue using outsourced transports than designing one from scratch, especially when made by specializedfirms like Esoteric, Sony, Pioneer, Denon and Philips. In any case, I'm not holding this against them. On the contrary, Accuphase are still one of the very few dedicated audio manufacturers
that still take pride in what they make and always continue to manufacture to strict quality control and specs.Having said this, I could still be wrong..:) But I've read many times similar claims from other reputable manufacturers when it turned out that the parts in question were outsourced but tailor made to their own specs.
Anyway, It really doesn't matter since Accuphase products have always been very reliable and I would personally buy them with my eyes closed, so to speak..:)
