I have no reference to compare this disc with but I certainly enjoy both the performance and the sound, subject to the usual reservations about the Barbican.

But there are lots of great mezzos on recording of Gerotius - Baker (twice), Watts, Minton, Palmer - do I really need yet another recording of this work? As I recall, Rendall was a last-minute replacement for an indisposed tenor (Heppner maybe?), and the reviews of his singing were not very favorable.
BTW, I really enjoyed the overall performance but do not feel I am experienced enough to qualify it.
